On Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles were involved in a trade for a wide receiver, but it wasn’t the deal that everyone expected. The team acquired Dontayvion Wicks in a trade with the Green Bay Packers, with the Eagles sending multiple late-round picks to complete the deal.
Dontayvion Wicks’ Trade to Eagles Sparks A.J. Brown Trade Speculation
The Eagles are expected to trade A.J. Brown before the start of the 2026 season, and acquiring Wicks could be yet another proof that Brown’s days in Philadelphia are done. Earlier in the offseason, Philadelphia also signed Hollywood Brown to a free agent deal, further improving its receiving group.
Naturally, multiple movements involving additions for the receiving group raised expectations that Brown would be moved after June 1. This was pointed out by many analysts as soon as news of Wicks’ deal was reported, including Pete Nova.
“Hollywood Brown and Dontayvion Wicks have now been added to the Eagles room. While not big additions, I believe they are gearing up for an AJ Brown trade”, Pete said.

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter had the same view. Schefter pointed out on a tweet that the receiving group remains in flux for the Eagles, while Brown’s trade, if it were to happen, would be after June 1 for salary cap reasons.
“A.J. Brown’s future in Philadelphia remains a topic of conversation, and in the meantime, the Eagles add another WR in Dontayvion Wicks from Green Bay,” Schefter wrote. “The belief remains that, if an A.J. Brown trade were to happen, it would likely occur after June 1, when the cap burden would be more manageable for the Eagles.”
Another ESPN reporter, Mike Clay, noted how the Eagles seem to have changed their group as a whole, putting more emphasis on the No. 3 receiving spot. Clay also believes that this is a sign that A.J. Brown will be moved.
The additions of Hollywood Brown and Wicks certainly add fuel to the fire that AJ Brown will be moved. They’re not at his caliber but the 3rd WR slot hasn’t been a big priority in this offense with Brown/Smith locked in. https://t.co/BTZK2p7xSo

“It was just a good deal for everyone involved,” wrote PFSN’s Zach Jacobson on X. “The Packers get picks, the Eagles get another receiver to absorb the likely loss of A.J. Brown, and Dontayvion Wicks gets a new deal from a team that will give him the chance to start. That wasn’t gonna happen in Green Bay.”
And finally, former Packers quarterback and current NFL analyst Kurt Benkert praised the Eagles’ addition, calling Wicks “one of the most open receivers vs Man in the league.”

While not a superstar, Wicks is a useful player who could represent a solid pickup for Philadelphia. He was ranked as No. 72 in our PFSN WR Impact Metric during the 2025 season, finishing the year with 332 yards and 2 touchdowns.
As for Brown, the New England Patriots still remain as the most likely landing spot for him if the Eagles were to trade him at some point this year.
