The Philadelphia Eagles have started the season strong in their bid to defend the Super Bowl, but they now face a high-stakes rematch against the New York Giants. In their first meeting, the Eagles were surprisingly outcoached by Brian Daboll and outplayed by rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart in just one of his first career starts.
Adding to their challenges, the Eagles received a major blow when star receiver A.J. Brown was ruled out for Week 8. So, what exactly happened to him? Here’s the latest on his injury and when he will return.
What’s A.J. Brown’s Injury?
Brown has remained healthy throughout the 2025 season and showed no signs of injury during last week’s dominant performance against the Minnesota Vikings. The 28-year-old put together his best game of the season with four catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns, including a spectacular 45-yard reception late in the fourth quarter.
Despite his excellent showing and no visible injury concerns during the game, Brown did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. He was spotted in street clothes during the session, and it was later revealed that he is dealing with a hamstring injury.
The three-time Pro Bowler again missed practice on Thursday and Friday, and while head coach Nick Sirianni had left the door open for him to play Sunday, the Eagles officially ruled him out for Week 8 later on Saturday.
The hamstring concern carries additional concern given Brown’s history with this type of injury. He missed three games last season with a hamstring strain, describing it as a “freak accident” caused by overworking himself during his training routine.
Brown is now expected to return after the team’s bye for the Nov. 10 game against the Green Bay Packers, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Brown had been hitting his stride at the perfect time for both the Eagles and fantasy managers. Through seven games, he had 29 receptions for 395 yards and three touchdowns, ranking 35th in PFSN’s WR Impact metric.
Even without Brown, the Eagles still have weapons to lean on. Tight end Dallas Goedert has been strong this season, tallying five touchdowns through six games and showcasing his red-zone ability. He also put up 110 yards on nine catches in the previous matchup against the Giants.
Meanwhile, Devonta Smith, who plays opposite Brown, has had a strong statistical year and currently ranks 5th on PFSN’s WR Impact metric. Through five games, Smith has more than 100 yards and nine more catches than his counterpart as he benefits from playing alongside Brown, who consistently draws the top cornerback and frees up opportunities for his teammate.
