‘Madden’ Movie Hits Early Roadblock As Actor Drops Out Following Shooting Drama

It has been a rocky start to the filming of the “Madden” movie. Not even a month into production, one of the actors bolted out of the set after a conflict with the director, per TMZ. The news outlet reported that racial slurs and nudity were the major reasons behind the actor’s decision.

TMZ also talked to Cage, who is playing coach Madden, and Bale, who is playing former Raiders owner Al Davis. The two actors also seemed to have some issues with Russell. Other crew members told the news outlet that the actor declined to be naked in a scene, resulting in a poor reaction from the director.

Sources have told the outlet that it’s not the whole truth and things are being portrayed differently than reality. However, a particular individual has not denied tensions on the set.

Talks with the actor are ongoing and the studio is still open to have him onboard.

Who was John Madden?

The Eagles drafted Madden in the 21st round of the 1959 NFL Draft as the 244th overall pick. A career-ending knee injury during the Eagles’ offseason training camp prevented him from starting an NFL game.

Madden returned to the NFL, this time as the Raiders’ linebackers coach in 1967. He helped the team reach Super Bowl II in that season and earned a promotion to head coach in 1969. Under his reign, the Raiders never witnessed a losing season and won the Super Bowl in 1976.

After leaving the sidelines in 1979, Madden joined CBS Sports as a color commentator. He joined Fox Sports in 1994 after 14 years with CBS. He also joined the ABC Sports studio in 2002 and stayed there until 2005. His final stint as a color commentator came with NBC Sports from 2006 to 2008. He put his mic down, once and for all, in 2009. He sadly passed away on December 28, 2021.

The biopic is expected to portray his journey from being a Vince Lombardi Trophy-winning coach to giving his voice and soul to the NFL Madden, a video game franchise.
