The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for a starting quarterback. Aaron Rodgers remains the biggest name in play, but there’s been little movement since what was described as a “positive” visit between the two sides on March 21.
At this point, it’s starting to feel like Mason Rudolph might be the Week 1 starter.
The Steelers recently scheduled an official visit with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but the top prospect is expected to be off the board by the time Pittsburgh picks at No. 21.
Would they trade up for Sanders? Maybe. Around the league, the feeling is clear: the Steelers have to do something at quarterback.

‘Weird Vibes’ Setting Mood at Pittsburgh Steelers’ Facility
Some players in the locker room have voiced support for Rudolph. Seven-time Pro Bowler Cam Heyward even said the team would “feel good about it” if Rudolph was the starter for the 2025 NFL season.
Meanwhile, NFL insider Josina Anderson offered an update on the atmosphere inside the Steelers’ building. A source told her the vibe wasn’t exactly panic — but definitely odd.
The only other option on the current depth chart is Skylar Thompson, a 2022 seventh-rounder with 138 career pass attempts over 10 games (three starts) in two seasons.
Anderson wrote: “Meanwhile from a league source on the #Steelers: The vibe? I would say it feels a little weird here. The running joke around here right now is ‘who’s going to be our quarterback?’ Now, I wouldn’t say there’s any panic though; but the current QB depth says what it says.”

What’s Going on With Aaron Rodgers, Shedeur Sanders?
The Steelers have a pre-draft visit scheduled with Sanders early next week.
Some see the move as a possible nudge toward Rodgers — an effort to shake loose a decision. The four-time NFL MVP has been linked Pittsburgh since free agency began. But despite the ongoing interest, the situation has dragged on without resolution.
“Not nothing. Something. I don’t think this is a message to Aaron Rodgers,” Rapoport said Wednesday on “Good Morning Football.”
“The Steelers don’t need to do that, right? But if it was, I would say the message is, you are now on the clock. Because the Steelers have been very patient with Aaron Rodgers. Free agency was a thousand years ago, it was so freakin’ long ago … and we were waiting for Aaron Rodgers at that point in free agency. Didn’t get a decision.
“The only real deadline is the draft, and so by the Steelers bringing in Shedeur Sanders, they made two points. One, if Rodgers doesn’t come to the Steelers, they are probably going to have to draft a quarterback somewhere. And the other part of this is … Rodgers, if you tell us after the draft, we’re going to have to protect ourselves.”
