Aaron Glenn Breaks Silence on Jets’ QB1 Position After Justin Fields’ Poor Performance vs. Browns

Aaron Glenn keeps the Jets’ quarterback mystery alive as questions mount over Justin Fields’ shaky outing and the team’s offensive struggles.

The New York Jets are coming off one of their most surprising wins of the 2025 season, but uncertainty continues to hang over their most important position. Head coach Aaron Glenn has once again refused to reveal who will start at quarterback against the New England Patriots, keeping fans and reporters guessing as the team tries to sustain its newfound momentum.

Jets Continue to Keep Quarterback Decision Under Wraps

During a Zoom session with reporters on Monday, Glenn made his stance unmistakably clear. “Please don’t ask me anything about the quarterbacks,” he said. “You know I’m not going to tell you and I don’t want to waste my time when it comes to that, when it comes to who’s starting.”

The comments, reported by ESPN’s Rich Cimini, marked the third consecutive week that Glenn has declined to name his starter in advance.

For now, all signs continue to point toward Justin Fields, who has led the Jets to back-to-back victories but struggled mightily in Sunday’s 27–20 win over the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium.

Fields completed just six of eleven passes for 54 yards, with 42 of those yards coming on a short dump-off that running back Breece Hall turned into a touchdown. He also threw his first interception of the season.

Despite the modest stat line, the Jets managed to win through a combination of defense and special teams. The team scored twice on returns, a kickoff, and a punt, while Hall carried the offense with 83 rushing yards and a highlight-reel catch-and-run.

Glenn pointed out that the flow of the game restricted Fields’ chances to pass, explaining that the special teams touchdowns reduced the number of offensive snaps and passing attempts available.

When asked about the interception, Glenn showed understanding rather than frustration. He explained that Fields’ interception happened when he tried to push the ball downfield to Garrett Wilson, but Browns safety Ronnie Hickman read it well and made an excellent play to secure the pick.

Glenn also mentioned that he noticed several positive aspects in Fields’ performance, despite the overall outing being inconsistent.

According to PFSN’s Offense Impact metrics, the Jets hold a 2–7 record in the 2025 season, reflecting their uneven performances despite recent wins. The team’s offensive impact score sits at 64.9, which ranks 28th in the league, and their overall grade of ‘D’ underscores the ongoing struggles on that side of the ball.

The Jets also place 28th in season ranking and 761st overall, highlighting how limited offensive consistency has contributed to their broader challenges.

That blend of protection and patience seems to define Glenn’s current approach. While his refusal to name a starter could be seen as gamesmanship, it also reflects a desire to shield his quarterbacks, particularly Fields, from unnecessary external pressure as the team continues to stabilize after a rough start to the year.

With a short week ahead before Thursday night’s matchup against the Patriots, Glenn’s decision-making process appears to be less about secrecy and more about consistency. As long as the Jets keep finding ways to win, his silence on the QB1 question might speak louder than any announcement.
