While the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots have expressed some interest in acquiring wide receiver A.J. Brown this offseason, nothing has unfolded.
For the moment, Brown is staying put with the Philadelphia Eagles and is set to continue serving as one of Jalen Hurts’ primary targets.
Eagles Brush Off Interest in WR A.J. Brown
On Friday, Dianna Russini, Senior NFL Insider for The Athletic, posted on X some news regarding the Rams, Patriots, and Eagles around Brown.
Russini wrote, “After serious conversations with both the Rams and Patriots, the Eagles will not trade A.J. Brown at this time, according to multiple league sources. Both teams remain interested, but no move is imminent. If a trade were to happen, it would likely heat up closer to June 1.”
What does Brown’s contract situation look like at this time? According to Spotrac, “A.J. Brown signed a 3 year, $96,000,000 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, including $19,875,000 signing bonus, $84,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $32,000,000.
“In 2026, Brown will earn a base salary of $1,300,000, a signing bonus of $27,450,000 and a workout bonus of $250,000, while carrying a cap hit of $23,393,497 and a dead cap value of $72,515,106.”
According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, which are measured through the regular season, Brown had an impact score of 80.9 and graded out to a B-. In 15 games for the Eagles, Brown was targeted 121 times and had 78 catches for 1,003 receiving yards. He totaled 7 touchdown catches and averaged 8.3 yards per target.
Brown played his first three NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans, who drafted Brown out of Ole Miss in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Brown has played the last four seasons in Philadelphia, posting 339 receptions for 5,034 receiving yards and 32 touchdown catches.
In 105 career NFL games, Brown has 524 receptions for 8,029 yards and 56 touchdowns.
The Rams were eyeing Brown as yet another major offensive weapon for reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford. Likewise, the Patriots were potentially looking at Brown to serve as a major upgrade at receiver for surging quarterback Drake Maye.
Yet the Eagles aren’t moving Brown at this point.
Russini, though, made it clear in her comments that both the Rams and Patriots remain interested in Brown. But Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni might see Brown as a player that the team would want to keep as part of its offense. It will be interesting to see if the Eagles do move Brown by that June 1 date.
