Andy Roddick Reveals What He Thinks of Taylor Fritz Ahead of Wimbledon 2025

Former tennis player Andy Roddick shared his opinions on Taylor Fritz ahead of Wimbledon 2025 following a successful grass season.

Andy Roddick believes Taylor Fritz has the game to make a deep run at Wimbledon after his impressive grass-court victory at the Stuttgart Open. Fritz claimed the ATP 250 title in Stuttgart by defeating Alexander Zverev 6–3, 7–6(0), firing 11 aces without facing a break point in the final.

Roddick also pointed to Fritz’s comfort on grass, recalling that most of the American’s career titles have come on that surface. Despite Fritz’s loss to Corentin Moutet at Queen’s Club, Roddick sees room for improvement before Wimbledon begins on June 30, 2025.

Victory at Stuttgart Highlighted Taylor Fritz’s Grass Strength

Fritz has an impressive record on grass courts throughout his career. The American has won four of his nine ATP titles on grass, including three victories at Eastbourne in 2019, 2022, and 2024. Fritz became the first player in tournament history to win Eastbourne three times when he claimed the 2024 title.

Fritz won his fourth grass-court title in Stuttgart against Alexander Zverev, making their head-to-head record 8-5 in the American’s favor. He won 88% of his first-serve points and scored 11 aces in the final without facing a break point against the World No. 3.

Fritz reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in both 2022 and 2024, with his 2024 run featuring a memorable comeback victory over Zverev after being down two sets. Among active players, only Novak Djokovic (8) has more grass court titles than Fritz’s four. This strong track record on the surface gives Fritz confidence heading into Wimbledon 2025.

Andy Roddick is Expecting to See Taylor Fritz At the Tail End Of Wimbledon

Roddick highlighted Fritz’s strong performances on grass and title victories in his YouTube video. “I think he’s really, really good on grass. I think the majority of his titles in his career so far have been on grass, the biggest one,” Roddick stated.

Fritz has won three Eastbourne titles, and this Stuttgart victory adds another, bringing his total of grass titles to four.

Roddick acknowledged Fritz’s loss to Corentin Moutet at Queen’s Club (6-7, 7-6, 7-5) but believes that match exposed areas Fritz can fine-tune before Wimbledon starts. “But the match against Moutet, I watched it, there’s still something to be found before Wimbledon for him,” the former tennis player pointed out.

Fritz enters Wimbledon with mixed results that highlight his potential and challenges. His Stuttgart triumph was his first title of 2025 and came after a disappointing clay court season. However, Fritz suffered an early setback at Queen’s Club, losing to Moutet in three sets. This defeat was Fritz’s first loss on the surface in 2025 and handed Moutet his first career victory over a top-5 player.
