Stefanos Tsitsipas Responds to Paula Badosa’s Emotional Berlin Open Retirement with Playful Food Truck Proposal

After Paula Badosa’s emotional message following her tough loss, Stefanos Tsitsipas playfully suggested they run away together to start a new life.

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has made a bold gesture to cheer up his girlfriend, Paula Badosa, after her heartbreaking loss at the Berlin Open.

The Spanish tennis star was forced to retire midway through her match against China’s Wang Xinyu due to injury. Badosa lost the first set 6-1 before deciding she could not continue.

After retiring, a frustrated Badosa smashed her racket several times and threw it away before walking out of the Steffi Graf Stadion.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Lightens the Mood with Playful Proposal to Girlfriend Paula Badosa

Badosa, who had been playing well until the match against Wang, later took to X to share that she was exhausted by the recurring setbacks.

“I’m so tired of this,” she wrote, including a broken heart emoji.

The post triggered an outpouring of support, with the former world No. 2’s followers rallying to console her. Tsitsipas, Badosa’s boyfriend and fellow tennis star, joined the efforts to lift the Spaniard’s spirits.

Tsitsipas and Badosa began dating in June 2023, and they have since been strong supporters of each other’s careers. After Badosa’s latest setback on the tennis court, her Greek boyfriend suggested an unconventional plan to leave her tennis troubles behind.

“Let’s run away and launch a food truck that only sells cereal, is never in the same place twice, and accepts payment in compliments,” Tsitsipas suggested.

Notably, Tsitsipas is known for making philosophical and creative statements on social media.

How Tsitsipas and Badosa Have Played Lately

Stefanos Tsitsipas has faced a challenging season by his high standards. Once ranked as high as No. 3 in the world, the Greek’s ranking has dropped to No. 25 in the latest PIF ATP Rankings.

After a second-round exit at the French Open, Tsitsipas entered the Halle Open seeking redemption on grass. However, he lost in the second round to American Alex Michelsen.

In contrast to Tsitsipas’ recent struggles, Badosa is gradually working her way back among the top names in women’s tennis.

The Spanish star fell out of the top 50 in 2023 after suffering a series of career-threatening injuries. However, she rebounded impressively in 2024, winning the WTA’s Comeback Player of the Year award.

However, an injury in her L4 vertebra, first reported in 2023, has resurfaced this year. The Spaniard was forced to retire mid-match in Mérida and again in Miami due to pain. Withdrawals from the Indian Wells Masters, Charleston Open, Madrid Open and Italian Open followed.

The 27-year-old made a return at the French Open but lost to Russian Daria Kasatkina in the third round.
