After Emma Raducanu’s Incident With Stalker, Carlos Alcaraz Admits to Feeling Unsafe Outside Tournaments

Carlos Alcaraz reveals safety concerns outside tennis venues after Emma Raducanu's stalker incident, admitting fans sometimes make him feel unsafe on streets.

The tennis world has been shaken by recent safety concerns affecting Emma Raducanu. A disturbing encounter with a stalker in February at the Dubai Tennis Championships brought player security into sharp focus. Now, Carlos Alcaraz has opened up about his own safety worries when he’s away from the tournaments.

A man approached Raducanu the day before her second-round match with Karolina Muchova, giving her a letter and asking for a photo in a coffee shop. In the preceding weeks, she had seen the same person at tournaments in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Doha.

During her second-round match, Raducanu became visibly distressed when she saw the same person in the crowd, costing her the match. The man was removed from the venue and given a restraining order by Dubai police. Now, he tried purchasing tickets for the upcoming Wimbledon tournament but was identified by the authorities.

Carlos Alcaraz Shares His Own Security Concerns

Following Raducanu’s ordeal, Alcaraz has revealed his concerns, stating he too faces safety challenges outside tennis tournaments. Speaking at a post-match conference at Queen’s Club, the five-time Grand Slam champion admitted feeling vulnerable in certain situations.

“Well, I never feel not safe during tournaments or in the club. But yeah, sometimes when you’re walking around, when you’re walking on the streets, when you’re off the tournament, there are some situations that you don’t feel safe with some fans that they [are] always walking behind you or something, they never leave you alone,” Alcaraz elaborated on the topic.

The Spaniard described specific incidents where fans don’t understand. “Sometimes the fans don’t know how to deal with that situations that they [are] always pushing me all the time that I take picture, autograph or whatever. If I say no, they don’t understand sometimes. So that’s the situations that I’m not feeling safe,” he added.

The Dilemma of Personal Security of Tennis Stars as Explained by Carlos Alcaraz

“Yeah, I think about it sometimes, but I’m still not sure about getting a personal security. But if I get it, I feel like I’m acting like I’m not a normal guy,” Alcaraz revealed about considering hiring personal security, but worries about losing his sense of normalcy.

The Spaniard further explained that security varies by location. “There are some places that don’t have security, so I’m just going by myself,” Alcaraz noted.

Alcaraz has previously shown concern for fan safety, asking supporters not to push children during autograph sessions at the Cincinnati Open last year.

The tennis community has witnessed several troubling incidents recently, with female players particularly facing heightened risks. Iga Świątek faced threat and harassment at the Miami Open from a spectator, requiring additional security.

Raducanu’s recent stalker attempted to buy Wimbledon tickets but was blocked by the All England Club’s security system. The incidents involving Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz showcase the ongoing safety challenges professional tennis players face.

These two are set to participate in mixed doubles at the US Open. Alcaraz specially requested this team-up, and Raducanu accepted the offer just a few hours later.
