Taylor Fritz didn’t have the French Open he hoped for in 2025, but his spirits were lifted by Coco Gauff winning the women’s singles title — a major win for American tennis.
Speaking ahead of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart, Fritz shared how excited he was to see Gauff win at Roland Garros. He was especially pumped because he called it before the tournament even started.
Taylor Fritz Proud After Correctly Predicting Coco Gauff’s French Open Win
Gauff entered the French Open as the No. 2 seed and stormed through the draw. She beat Olivia Gadecki, Tereza Valentova, Marie Bouzková, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Madison Keys and French wildcard Lois Boisson to reach her second final in Paris.
In the championship match, Gauff dropped a close first set in a tiebreak against top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. But she bounced back, winning 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 to capture her second Grand Slam singles title — and her first on clay.
Meanwhile, Fritz, the No. 4 seed on the men’s side, was upset in the first round by Germany’s Daniel Altmaier.
Still, during a media session ahead of his grass-court campaign in Stuttgart, Fritz reflected on Gauff’s performance with nothing but pride.
“I called her before the tournament started actually,” he said in a video posted on Instagram. “I don’t know if you saw that, but they asked this prediction. I said, I got to go with Coco. So I’m, like, so incredibly happy for her. I texted her the second she won. I was very, very pumped. Very pumped that she got that.”
Before the tournament began, Fritz joined fellow American stars Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul in a promotional video filmed in Paris. All three predicted Gauff would win the women’s title.
“I mean, let’s go with Coco. I gotta support Coco. I have to,” Fritz said at the time.
Shelton added, “I think my winner on the women’s side will be an American — Coco,” while Paul said, “I got Coco. I think she is playing great, having come out of two finals. I think she is hungry but also confident.”
