WNBA Ticket Prices Drop 71% as Caitlin Clark’s Absence Confirms Fever Star’s Impact on League

The Indiana Fever have lost Caitlin Clark to a short-term injury, but the WNBA's corresponding ticket sales present a long-term conversation.

Caitlin Clark’s quad injury has already shaken up the WNBA’s secondary ticket market. The Indiana Fever guard will miss at least two weeks after suffering a left quad strain during the team’s loss to the New York Liberty on May 25. Since then, ticket prices for upcoming Fever games have dropped fast.

Caitlin Clark’s Absence Sparks Sharp Drop in Ticket Prices

According to data from TickPick shared with USA TODAY Sports, the average ticket price for the four Indiana Fever games Caitlin Clark is expected to miss has dropped from $137 to $80. That’s a 41% decrease in just one day. Both road games in this stretch — May 28 against the Washington Mystics and June 7 against the Chicago Sky — were originally moved to larger venues due to the demand to see Clark in person.

The Mystics moved their home game from the smaller Entertainment and Sports Arena to Baltimore’s CFG Bank Arena. Before news of Clark’s injury, the cheapest ticket available was $41. That dropped to $14.

The Sky made a similar adjustment, shifting their June 7 game to the United Center — the largest venue in the WNBA. That game was expected to be a rematch between Clark and Angel Reese. Average ticket prices fell from $210 to $95. The get-in price now sits at $25.

Fever Home Games Also Feel Impact

Clark’s absence isn’t just affecting road games. Home games have taken a hit, too. The Fever’s May 30 game against the Connecticut Sun and their June 3 game against the Mystics are both seeing lower demand. The cheapest tickets for those games are $13 and $11, respectively.

Ticket Prices Jump for Games After Clark’s Expected Return

Clark is expected to return on June 10 against the Atlanta Dream, and the market is already reacting. That game, played at Gateway Center Arena — the league’s smallest venue — has a get-in price of $147. The arena seats just 3,500 fans.

Road games following her expected return are also trending up. Over the next five games, each has a get-in price of more than $100. This stretch includes Indiana’s first-ever game at Chase Center on June 19 against the Golden State Valkyries and a big matchup with the Dallas Wings on June 27. That game, which may feature Paige Bueckers, has a starting price of $141.

Clark’s first potential home game after the injury would be June 14, when the Fever host the Liberty. Tickets for that game start at $43 — far higher than current home game prices. It shows just how much her presence changes the demand.

Players React to Clark’s Rising Star Power

Clark’s quick rise is getting attention from current and former NBA players. On a recent episode of “Podcast P with Paul George,” the Clippers forward spoke about what her arrival means for the WNBA.

“Wow! Talk about aura,” George said. “That’s a hell of an aura.”

George said Clark deserves the attention, but he also understands why some players might feel left out.

“They’ve been grinding to grow the sport, the viewership,” George said. “Then you have this girl that comes along from college and is an instant change. She’s handed pretty much being the face of the league.

“Obviously, we know she deserves it. But in their eyes, whether they think she deserves it or not, she’s being handed the face of the league. So, there are going to be girls that are offended by that. And there’s going to be girls that think she’s got to earn it.”

Clark’s Presence Continues to Shape the League

Former NBA guard Rashad McCants shared his thoughts on social media and didn’t hold back.

“THE FACE OF THE NBA IS CAITLIN CLARK!!! Yea I said it!!!! She has handled criticism better than the people you consider THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!” McCants wrote.

Clark’s influence goes beyond just selling tickets. She’s already affected media rights, viewership, and even where teams play. The Fever’s move to bigger arenas on the road is a reflection of that. Even when she’s not on the court, the numbers show her value.
