ESPN NFL Analyst Rips Eagles Leadership – ‘Are We Sure They Don’t Have a Culture Problem?’

The Philadelphia Eagles' splashes on Day 1 of free agency don't have everybody impressed. One NFL analyst is skeptical about their culture.

The Philadelphia Eagles may have swung big on the first day of free agency, but not everyone was impressed.

Pass-rushing dynamo Bryce Huff and running back Saquon Barkley signed with the Eagles Monday afternoon, with plenty more available players to come. Despite the increase in overall talent, ESPN has been a network that has poured water on the first couple of moves.

One analyst, in particular, ties Philadelphia’s free agent frenzy to locker room concerns heading into 2024.

Chris Canty Rips Eagles’ Leadership

When it comes to hatred of the Eagles, few players can offer the kind of résumé that Chris Canty has. The former fourth-round pick in 2005 played four NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and then four others with the New York Giants.

Two of Philadelphia’s biggest rivals.

It should come as no surprise to anyone then that Canty’s opinion on the Eagles is far different, even after the free agent signings that were made. Despite the Cowboys not signing anyone on the first day and having some questions about their long-term viability in 2024, Canty turned the question around on Philadelphia.

“Are we sure that the Philadelphia Eagles don’t have a culture problem?” Canty said on ESPN’s Get Up Tuesday. “I don’t know that there’s a head coach-quarterback tandem that is going to be under more pressure this than Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni.”

Sirianni is the first coach in franchise history to lead the organization to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons with the team. He helped lead the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII and owns a respectable 36-20 record.

However, it’s how the season ended for Philadelphia that gives Canty the biggest reason for skepticism.

“They lost six of their final seven games, including getting embarrassed in the postseason,” Canty explained. “Now, what compounds that issue is the leadership vacuum that exists in that locker room because you lost Jason Kelce and because you lost Fletcher Cox.”

Philadelphia did see their long-term center and defensive tackle retire in the last week, but the organization is still projected to have over $30 million in cap space with the leadership of the team transferring over to younger players like Hurts, wide receiver A.J. Brown, and Jordan Mailata.

It’s not enough to impress Canty, though.
