Cowboys vs. Eagles Prediction

Last week, for the second time this season, the Philadelphia Eagles were pushed hard by a mediocre Washington Commanders team yet still prevailed, this time 38-31.

But if another close divisional game feels like a reason to hit the panic button with the Eagles, don’t bother. While it was a sloppy performance at times — Philadelphia had not one but two red zone turnovers last week — the Eagles still managed to score 28 second-half points to pull out the victory.

And quarterback Jalen Hurts had his best game of the season, with a season-high-tying 319 passing yards and four touchdown passes (season best). His passer rating of 135.7 was his highest of the season, topping the 112.3 rating he had back in Week 4 against …

… the Commanders.

Hurts, who is 24-2 in his last 26 regular season starts, has also found his favorite target, A.J. Brown, a lot lately. In fact, Brown has a streak of six straight games with at least 125 yards, an NFL record.

For the Dallas Cowboys, they need to prove they can win a big matchup. Their five wins have come against opponents that entered Week 9 with a combined record of 14-24.

At least they have a quarterback — Dak Prescott — who is coming off perhaps his best game of the season in a blowout win over the Los Angeles Rams. Prescott had season-highs in passing yards (304), passing touchdowns (four), and passer rating (133.7).

And Dallas has its own stud at wide receiver as well in CeeDee Lamb. Lamb had a career game last week, finishing with 12 catches for 158 yards and two touchdown catches, all career-highs (two TD catches tied his career-high).

Philly will no doubt bring the pressure, ranking second behind the San Francisco 49ers in quarterback pressures (135). But Prescott has been able to handle that, completing an NFL-best 70.8% of his throws when under pressure, according to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats.

From a betting standpoint, there are a couple of ways to look at each team in this matchup. First, the Cowboys are an impressive 5-2 against the spread this season. But this will be just their second time as an underdog, and in their first game as a dog, they got spanked by the 49ers in a 32-point loss.

For the Eagles, they are 4-2-2 ATS this season, but that also includes a 0-1-1 ATS record in their two meetings with the Commanders, who have a habit of playing Philadelphia tight. If you eliminate the Commanders from the picture, the Eagles are 4-1-1 ATS.

A win for the Eagles would put them in great shape to become the first team to repeat as outright NFC East champions since 2004, last done by the Eagles as well.

Philadelphia is battle-tested this season — beat the Dolphins two weeks ago — while the biggest matchup for Dallas this season — at San Francisco — resulted in an embarrassing 32-point drubbing.

I’m flying with the Eagles in this one.
