Christian Watson Injury Update: Will Watson Play in Week 2? Fantasy Impact and More

After missing Week 1, will WR Christian Watson come back from injury to make his 2023 debut this week?

Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson closed out his rookie season with 611 receiving yards and seven TDs on 66 targets, but we have yet to see if he will have a sophomore breakout season. He was Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target in 2022, with 24% of all WR targets going in his direction. It is yet to be seen if he can have the same success with a different QB under center.

Latest News Surrounding Christian Watson

Watson missed Week 1 dealing with a hamstring injury. It is unclear when the injury happened, but it seems to be something that happened near the end of the preseason. Watson returned to practice on Friday in a limited capacity, which is good news after he missed two practices earlier in the week.

Will Watson Play This Week?

The Packers are dealing with several hamstring injuries; in addition to Watson, RB Aaron Jones and WR Romeo Doubs are nursing injuries. The Packers were firing on all cylinders against the Bears on Sunday, and if Jones and Doubs are on the bench, there will be free targets.

The two combined for nine targets in Week 1, and if Watson gets the green light, he would be a great option for Jordan Love. Watson should be a game-time decision.

What Does This Mean for Watson’s Fantasy Rankings?

Coming back from a hamstring injury is tricky, especially for players who rely on explosive speed like Watson does. The chance always exists for reinjury (a la Cooper Kupp), and sometimes you see players holding back to compensate.

Currently, Watson is our WR44, and if he does indeed play, he would be a solid Flex option heading into the game against Atlanta, especially if other Packers can’t go.
