Aaron Donald’s return from retirement may have made the Los Angeles Rams even more terrifying, adding extra expectations and pressure on Sean McVay’s team after they were touted as one of the early favorites to win the Super Bowl.
The hype went up another notch when 60 Minutes announced that its Season 59 premiere would feature an inside look at the team. The announcement also hailed the Rams as a “superteam,” sparking a brutal reaction from NFL fans.

The Rams have a star-studded roster in 2026, with Donald joining new addition Myles Garrett on defense and Matthew Stafford, who is coming off an MVP season, leading an offense featuring Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Understandably, that also means the expectations to win the Lombardi Trophy are sky-high.
“60 Minutes gets an inside look at the Los Angeles Rams, hailed as a superteam and an early favorite to win the Super Bowl. The new season premieres Sunday, Sept. 13,” the show posted on its X account.
The 60 Minutes promo had head coach McVay discussing the enormous expectations surrounding his team.
“You know, I’m a lot tormented,” McVay said in the short clip. “When we take the field, the expectations are to win. I’m more interested in who we become in the midst of the journey than what the final destination is.”

NFL fans had plenty to say on the matter. One noted that the Rams’ appearance on one of television’s most prominent news programs felt like yet another example of the media buying into the Los Angeles hype.

Others were far more pessimistic about what awaits the Rams this season. One fan predicted that it would be “the most obvious crash and burn season I’ve seen in a long time.”

NFL.com’s column predicted the Rams as the No. 1 team to win Super Bowl 61, with Mike Band writing, “no team can match the Rams’ elite combination of quarterback, head coach and overall talent.”

The Rams were the highest-ranked team in the 2025 season per PFN’s Offense Impact rankings, with a grade of 90.2, while posting an 87.1 in PFN’s Defense Impact Metric, ranking them fifth across the season.
Others joked that the Rams had apparently found another way to get the spotlight after not appearing on HBO’s Hard Knocks.

One fan suggested that the attention surrounding the Rams was part of a larger effort to turn the franchise into the NFL’s Los Angeles version of the city’s popular NBA and MLB teams, bigger than the Dallas Cowboys.
“As I feared, the NFL wants the Rams to overtake the Cowboys as the most popular team in the league. In other words, they want their version of the Lakers and Dodgers,” the fan wrote.

“So we’re all seeing that the universal NFL and Media coverage all season is that they want and will do everything they can to make the Rams Super Bowl champs happen right,” another fan posted.
One fan even questioned whether the Rams deserved the “superteam” label in the first place. “Seriously the Rams are the Rams from last year with a QB a year older, Garrett swapped for Verse, 35 year old Donald and a couple Spagnuolo corners,” they opined.

Finally, one fan sent a warning to the Rams, saying: “Lol you do this [expletive] and you better win the SB or it’s going to be bad.”

With Super Bowl 61 set to take place at SoFi Stadium, all this hype could turn into an embarrassment if the Rams do not show up on the field. They have certainly embraced the all-in approach before, winning Super Bowl 56 in 2022 after a series of blockbuster moves. But five years later, with a collection of veteran stars, the pressure may be greater than ever.
