The tale of alternating seasons has been hard to ignore for Jalen Hurts. But in a lot of ways, many people believe that the 2026 campaign could be a make-or-break year for him.
After a disappointing 2025 season, the Philadelphia Eagles have made a ton of roster tweaks to better support their quarterback. However, even as noise from the outside continues to get louder, general manager Howie Roseman remains confident.
Jalen Hurts Has the Backing of the Eagles
With Saquon Barkley setting the all-time single-season rushing record (regular season and playoffs combined), the Eagles rode that momentum to the second Super Bowl in franchise history. However, they couldn’t find the same level of success in 2025.
A majority of the blame fell on the offense, which ranked at number 23 on PFN’s Offense Impact Metric. Hurts, as the quarterback of said offense, also faced immense scrutiny, including from his own teammates, as A.J. Brown repeatedly called him out.
Still, one of the sharpest minds in the game remains confident in his quarterback. Roseman, while appearing on the “Move the Sticks” podcast, explained where his belief in Hurts stemmed from.

“Winner,” Roseman said when asked about Hurts’ greatest quality.
“Figures out during the game how to win that particular game,” he added. “We played in Chicago… It was one of the coldest games I’d ever been a part of. We were there in December, and it was a low-scoring game, and he just knew where the passing game was going with the conditions, and he took it upon himself to say I’m going to have to run the ball here to win this game, and we’re going to win this game ugly.”
For Roseman, that solidified the kind of player Hurts was.
Arguably his greatest attribute, the veteran general manager made it clear that the Alabama product did not care about style points. Instead, his sole focus was on getting the win, no matter how that result came about.

“He doesn’t care if he’s 9 for 11 for 130 yards and 60 yards rushing and we win 13-7, or he throws for 300 yards. It’s about winning or losing,” Roseman continued. “He’s been our starting quarterback for five years. We’ve made the playoffs all five years. We’ve won the division three of those five years, been in two Super Bowls. From my position, you just want to win games.”
It is a mentality that Roseman himself has preached to head coach Nick Sirianni as well: “It isn’t about individual stats. It’s about how can we win as many games as we possibly can to put ourselves in position to make the playoffs, have a good position in the playoffs, and then get a shot at that trophy.”
Unfortunately, many issues plagued the team last season. From a three-and-out rate that led the league, which led to the constant public comments from Brown, the problems were further magnified.
As a result, the team parted ways with Brown while also bringing in a new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion. Now it’s going to be on Hurts to repay the confidence the Eagles have shown him and re-establish himself as an elite quarterback in the league.
