The offseason has been completely businesslike for the Dallas Cowboys. Typically rife with pomp and circumstance, the team has been relatively devoid of any major controversies or problems throughout the offseason.
As a result, expectations are starting to rise for what they might be able to achieve this season. However, things went into overdrive when the team opened up a ton of cap space with one contract tweak. Now, an insider has revealed their grand plan.
Dallas Cowboys Continuing Their Offseason Trend
Missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons was a shocking scenario for the Cowboys. The injuries in 2024 and the state of the defense after trading Micah Parsons told the story of those years.
However, the organization went into the offseason with a clear goal to fix any deficiencies on that side of the ball. But after a slew of shrewd moves, clearing over $30 million in cap space seemed like a signal that something huge was on the horizon.
“Per source, the Cowboys created the room to roll over to next year. Not for a move this year at this time,” Clarence Hill Jr. confirmed the real reason for their move on X. “That’s the word. So pump your breaks.”

With nearly 30 years of experience covering the Cowboys, Hill is unmatched in his credentials to speak about the franchise. But ever since the cap adjustment by tweaking DaRon Bland, Jake Ferguson, and Kenny Clark’s contracts, their spending capacity has been hard to overlook.
As a result, speculation had been rife about what could be next for the team. Ranked dead last on PFN’s Defense Impact Metric last season, the team has been hard at work to add more talent on that side of the ball, including standout first-round pick Caleb Downs.

But after adding over $19 million in cap space on top of their pre-existing $14.2 million, it looked like something huge was in the pipeline. Mike Florio of NBC Sports even believed that it could be a precursor to a move for Maxx Crosby.
The superstar defensive end was traded to the Baltimore Ravens earlier this offseason, before the transaction was rescinded. Since then, he’s stayed on with the Las Vegas Raiders.
But given the Raiders’ long-term rebuild around rookie QB Fernando Mendoza under new head coach Klint Kubiak, that timeline might not appeal to a player, who will turn 30 next year. Given his connections to the Cowboys, a trade could be of mutual interest.
For the time being, though, it looks like the team is willing to exercise patience with their current roster. But if the season doesn’t start in the way the team is anticipating, then there is a clear way for them to make a league-altering move.
