The Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel scandal had dominated the headlines throughout the summer. Becoming arguably the biggest story in the NFL, the internet was digging as much as possible to find out more details about their alleged affair.
As a result, The Athletic’s complete investigation into their former employee seemed like a perfect way to get a deep dive into the situation. Unfortunately, a relatively clean chit left fans questioning the publication itself.
Fans Aren’t Happy With the Athletic Investigation Into Dianna Russini
Once pictures of the couple were published by Page Six from a resort in Arizona, it was only a matter of time before the details came into the limelight. Soon after, Russini had to step down from her role at The Athletic.
Since then, there has been relative silence from major media networks on the entire situation. That was until her former employers confirmed a full-fledged investigation into her work to ensure that it was without bias.
“Athletic’s long-awaited investigation into Dianna Russini’s reporting is done,” Ben Strauss confirmed on X. “Key finding: she violated newsroom standards, but showed no clear bias toward Mike Vrabel.”

Fans were left disappointed as they anticipated more details coming out from the investigation.
As a result, one fan claimed, “It was literally nothing, the athletic is a joke.”
Another fan was left unimpressed, adding, “Athletic finds Athletic reporter did nothing wrong. You don’t say.”

Others, too, reached a similar conclusion, with one fan pointing out, “Classic ‘We investigated ourselves and found out our employee was not actually guilty of what she was accused of.'”

As one fan called their report “laughable,” some fans wanted Pablo Torre on the investigation to get more details: “Nah, I don’t buy it. Put Pablo on the case and let him go to work.”

Torre did an investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers and their contract with Kawhi Leonard. Thanks to his work, the NBA was able to take strict action against all participants, including stripping the franchise of five first-round picks.

Others took notice of the coincidence as well, with one fan pointing out, “Very funny to drop this right after the Clippers stuff. #ThursdayNewsDump”
However, a few believed this had more to do with the New England Patriots.
Given their long history of cheating allegations, one fan accused, “Another hell of a cover up by Robert Kraft and Patriots Org as well, Goodell lets them off on the leash again!”

It remains to be seen if this turns out to be the end of the entire Russini and Vrabel scandal. But given the undeniable interest from a large section of the fan base, others may do a deep dive as well.
It will also be interesting to see if this report finally prompts Russini to pursue a comeback. Since the story first broke, the veteran reporter has been completely out of the spotlight. But with The Athletic clearing her of any wrongdoing, she could aim for a return to media circles in the near future.
