The Los Angeles Rams have made it clear that they are not waiting for another chance at a championship. Their recent decisions have reshaped the roster around Matthew Stafford while bringing Aaron Donald back into the fold.
With major assets committed to winning now, the Rams have created a situation that invites a bigger question about the direction of the franchise. One former NFL player believes the answer may be tied directly to Sean McVay’s future.

Breiden Fehoko recently examined Los Angeles’ decisions on “The Fehoko Show” and reached a striking conclusion about McVay’s timeline. The former NFL nose tackle pointed to Donald’s return, the trade for Myles Garrett, Stafford’s extension, and the addition of Trent McDuffie as signs that the Rams are pushing all their chips toward the present.
“What does this mean? Let me get this straight. Aaron Donald comes back out of retirement. Myles Garrett gets traded,” Fehoko said. “The Rams forge up their future to give up everything for him. The Rams give Matthew Stafford an extension. They trade for McDuffie from the Chiefs.”
Those moves led Fehoko to question why Los Angeles would take such an aggressive approach unless McVay’s own window was becoming shorter.

“I’m sitting here, and I’m thinking to myself, what for? Tells me one thing. It’s do or die, and this is the final dance for Sean McVay,” Fehoko said.
The Rams have already sacrificed significant draft capital to acquire Garrett. In June, they sent Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for the star pass rusher, who was coming off a 23-sack season.
Donald’s return made the strategy even more striking. The future Hall of Fame defensive tackle agreed to a one-year contract worth $20 million, with incentives that could raise its value to $30 million. His return gives Los Angeles a defensive front featuring two players who have combined for five Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Fehoko also questioned why Donald would return after previously walking away from football.
“Aaron Donald has already done everything you could possibly do in the game of football,” Fehoko added. “So you got to sit here and ask yourself why. Why would one of the greatest defensive players of all time decide to put on the pads again?”

The Rams have also strengthened their secondary with McDuffie and Jaylen Watson while keeping Stafford at quarterback. Meanwhile, Los Angeles selected quarterback Ty Simpson in the 2026 NFL Draft, giving the franchise a potential successor for its current veteran starter.
This combination suggests the Rams are balancing two timelines. Simpson represents the future, while Garrett, Donald, and Stafford are part of an immediate championship push.
Fehoko believes McVay sits at the center of that tension.
“That’s when I came up with the conclusion that this is the last dance for Sean McVay,” Fehoko said. “That is the only reason why the Rams have went all in in the time being for themselves.”
McVay has previously discussed his long-term desire to avoid spending his entire career coaching in the NFL. With Stafford, who ranked second in the PFN NFL QB Impact ranking in 2025, entering his late 30s, Los Angeles has little reason to wait if it believes this roster can contend now.
