A reliable offensive tackle is a quarterback’s best friend. With 22 offensive tackles making at least $20 million AAV, it’s clear that, once you have a top-notch protector at the position, you have to fork over the big bucks to keep them around. These are the 10 best offensive tackles in the NFL based on last year’s PFN OL Impact Scores.
10) Jordan Mailata, Philadelphia Eagles
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 83.9
It feels crazy to say that Jordan Mailata still hasn’t made a single Pro Bowl appearance since coming into the NFL in 2018. Though that lone accolade evades the former rugby player, Mailata has an All-Pro and a Super Bowl victory to his name, and his reputation as one of the best left tackles in the league is secure.
Mailata’s 85.5 run-blocking score ranked No. 11 among all offensive tackles last year, and his 79.7 pass-blocking score finished in the top 25. He finished last year as one of just eight tackles in the entire NFL to finish 2025 with top-25 marks in both categories. The Philadelphia Eagles have to be incredibly proud of how quickly he developed into a top-flight left tackle.
9) Warren McClendon Jr., Los Angeles Rams
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 84.1
When you think about the best offensive tackles in the NFL, Warren McClendon Jr. probably isn’t a name that comes to mind. That said, he started in ten games for the Los Angeles Rams and put together an impressive season in 2025. He now finds himself in a full-time starting role at right tackle with the retirement of Rob Havenstein.
Once Havenstein went down with a lower-body injury, McClendon stepped right in and served as a reliable protector at right tackle. He wasn’t called for a single penalty in 634 offensive snaps, and his 81.2 pass-blocking score ranked No. 16 among 107 qualified offensive tackles. He’s still just 25 years old, so McClendon’s future with the Rams looks quite bright.
8) Tytus Howard, Cleveland Browns
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 84.3
If Tytus Howard can put together a season similar to the 2025 campaign he had for the Houston Texans, then the Cleveland Browns will certainly be glad they traded for him this offseason. The Browns had a bottom-ten offensive line in the NFL last year by PFN Team OL Impact Scoring, so trading and extending Howard is anticipated to help them improve up front.
Howard was especially reliable in pass protection, as his 83.6 pass-blocking score ranked seventh among all NFL offensive tackles last year. His 84.3 PFN OL Impact Score marked the highest of his seven seasons in the league thus far, all having been spent with the Texans before his trade this offseason. Even with all the Browns’ quarterback concerns heading into 2026, their offense will surely benefit from having Howard at right tackle.
7) Darnell Wright, Chicago Bears
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 85.0
2025 was a banner year for Darnell Wright, and it resulted in his receiving the largest contract extension by a right tackle in NFL history this offseason. He had shown improvement from Year 1 to Year 2, but it was his third season with the Chicago Bears last year that really brought him up to the next level. He earned second-team All-Pro recognition for his performance in 2025.
Though Wright’s 80.7 pass-blocking score ranked in the top 20 among all qualified tackles, it was his performance as a run blocker that made his extension worth it. His 89.0 run-blocking score ranked fifth in the entire NFL and second among right tackles last season. The fact that he finished with this high of a PFN OL Impact Score despite tying for second in the league with 12 penalties shows how dominant Wright was when he played under control.
6) Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 85.0
Even though he’s well into his 30s, Trent Williams continues to be the definition of consistency at left tackle for the San Francisco 49ers. He’s finished with at least a top-ten PFN OL Impact Score in four of the last five years, a trend which continued with his 85.0 score last year. He ranked third among all NFL left tackles in the metric in 2025.

Williams was good as a pass protector, but he was elite as a run blocker last season. His 89.0 run-blocking score ranked third among all offensive tackles and led all left tackles in the NFL. Now 38 years old and going into his seventh year with the 49ers, Williams has shown no signs of slowing down and continues to solidify himself as a first-ballot Hall of Famer when his time comes.
5) Zach Bako-Bewele, Green Bay Packers
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 85.3
Formerly known as Zach Tom, Zach Bako-Bewele will look to bring the same level of consistency to the Green Bay Packers’ offensive line that he did under his old name. Bako-Bewele has been a top-six offensive tackle by PFN OL Impact Scoring each of the last two seasons, and his 85.3 score in 2025 marked the highest of his career thus far.
The career-high element of Bako-Bewele’s performance last year is especially intriguing when you realize he’s had at least an 80.0 PFN OL Impact Score in each of the last four seasons. Though he missed five games due to injury, it’s still incredibly impressive that he wasn’t called for a single penalty in 584 offensive snaps in 2025.
4) Andrew Thomas, New York Giants
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 86.4
Injuries remain a big issue for Andrew Thomas, as he’s missed 22 games over the last three seasons. But when he’s healthy, he’s been one of the better offensive tackles in the NFL, and that was reflected in his 86.4 PFN OL Impact Score. That score was his highest since his second-team All-Pro campaign in 2022.
Thomas still missed four games last year, but he had a large enough sample size to still have a major impact on the New York Giants’ offensive line. His 80.3 pass-blocking score ranked No. 18 among all offensive tackles, but it was his sixth-ranked 88.4 run-blocking score that really made him a differentiator in 2025.
3) Colton McKivitz, San Francisco 49ers
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 87.3
Going into 2026, the 49ers are the only team in the NFL with two offensive tackles who had top-ten PFN OL Impact Scores. Williams feels like a given for that high of a ranking, considering how great he’s been for much of his lengthy career. But Colton McKivitz quietly put together one of the best seasons we saw from an offensive tackle last year, ranking third among all offensive tackles and second among right tackles.

Sure, McKivitz had an impressive 80.0 pass-blocking score last year, and that was good enough to rank in the top 20 among all NFL offensive tackles. But his dominance in the run game is what earns him this high of a ranking; his 90.0 run-blocking score came in second at the position. With a $15 million average yearly salary that ranks just tenth among current right tackles, McKivitz is arguably one of the best value players in the NFL today.
2) Garett Bolles, Denver Broncos
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 90.3
Garett Bolles came out of 2025 as the highest-graded left tackle in the NFL by PFN OL Impact Scoring. He’ll face more competition in 2026 now that our No. 1 player switched from right tackle to left tackle this offseason, but Bolles is easily still one of the best tackles in the game. In his ninth year with the Denver Broncos, he earned Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro recognition in 2025, both of which were first-time achievements.
With an 85.2 pass-blocking score and an 84.7 run-blocking score that respectively ranked No. 5 and No. 13 among offensive tackles, Bolles was one of just two offensive tackles with a top-15 score in both metrics. The 6’5″, 300-pound veteran is aided by a loaded Broncos offensive line around him, but one could argue that Bolles is the best player of the bunch, which is saying a lot.
1) Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions
2025 PFN OL Impact Score: 93.4
When offensive tackles switch from one side to another, there’s usually some skepticism around how they’ll perform at the new position. There’s been no skepticism about Penei Sewell switching from right tackle to left tackle this year, though, and that’s because of how dominant he’s been on the right side for the Detroit Lions from the jump.
Not only did Sewell lead all offensive tackles with a 90.6 run-blocking score, but his 85.2 pass-blocking score ranked fourth at the position. He wasn’t just the only offensive tackle to score in the top five in both categories; he was the only one who even scored in the top ten in both. He’s been a top-two offensive tackle by PFN OL Impact Scoring each of the last three years, leading the NFL in the metric in 2023 and 2025. Sewell is the best offensive tackle in the game today, bar none.
