Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is heading into the final season of his current contract as the 2026-27 NBA season approaches.
Curry has spent his entire NBA career in Golden State since entering the league in 2009, and has once again made his intentions clear about remaining with the franchise, sparking mixed reactions among fans.

Curry officially became eligible to negotiate a contract extension with the Warriors on Saturday. He can now sign a two-year extension worth as much as $136.7 million.
On Monday, while attending a charity event at the Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club, Curry discussed his contract situation during an interview with NBC Sports’ Dalton Johnson.
With some fans wondering whether Curry could eventually consider leaving Golden State in pursuit of another championship opportunity, the 38-year-old superstar appeared to put those questions to rest. Curry said he is “pretty sure” that he will spend the remainder of his career with the Warriors.
“There’s no question I want to be here the rest of my career, and I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen,” Curry said. “The deal and contract stuff will happen in its right time, and we’re not letting it be a distraction from our preparation for the season.
“… I want to be here. The extension stuff, we’ll figure that out at the right time. But I’m ready for Year 18. It’s kind of crazy that it’s been this long, and I’m still trying to play at a very high level to help us win, and I’ll be able to do my job.”

Curry’s comments quieted the speculation surrounding his potential departure from Golden State. The longtime Warriors star has spent 17 years wearing the franchise’s colors, and many fans were thrilled to hear him reaffirm his commitment to the team.

However, Curry’s enduring loyalty comes at a time when Golden State is no longer the dominant force it once was. The Warriors are coming off a disappointing 37-45 season and failed to make the 2026 playoffs. Because of that, not every fan celebrated the 12-time All-Star’s decision.
“Steph never winning ring 5 because he wants to keep running a loyalty gimmick,” one fan pushed back.
“Well, we’re doomed,” another user added.
“Hate it,” a heartbroken fan commented.

Curry remains eligible to sign a contract extension through June 30, 2027. Under the NBA’s Over-38 rule, the two-year, $136.7 million extension is the maximum he can receive at this point. However, if he waits until free agency, Curry could potentially sign a deal spanning as many as three seasons.
Despite approaching the latter stages of his remarkable career, Curry continues to produce at an elite level. He finished the 2025-26 season averaging 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.
Curry remains one of the league’s most dangerous scorers, even as he nears 40. So, it’s now the Warriors’ responsibility to bring more star power to Golden State to help him chase his fifth ring.
