Former NBA center Enes Kanter has escalated his feud with the WNBA, now directly challenging Commissioner Cathy Engelbert to a public “peace summit” moderated by Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner.
Kanter’s proposal follows weeks of controversy surrounding the league’s transgender eligibility rules, during which he staged several online and offline stunts.

Kanter has spent weeks turning the conversation around women’s basketball into his personal spectacle.
It all started when the former Boston Celtics player declared himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft, claiming to identify as a woman to highlight what he calls vague league eligibility rules.
Things escalated further during a Chicago Sky versus Indiana Fever game at Wintrust Arena. Kanter sat courtside wearing a shirt that read “WOMAN: noun. adult human female,” sparking an on-court altercation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
Security escorted him out, and he was later banned from the building. In response, his legal representatives challenged the ban, pushing the fallout from the basketball arena directly into the legal arena.
The 34-year-old doubled down during an appearance on Fox News, arguing that because the WNBA doesn’t explicitly define biological criteria, he is technically eligible to play.
At the heart of the chaos is the WNBA’s ambiguous stance on player eligibility. While the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement notes that players must be women, it stops short of offering precise guidelines regarding transgender athletes or biological sex testing.
Now, Kanter is taking his campaign straight to Engelbert and the league’s task force. He invited them to an open debate, labeling it a “peace summit.”
“I’m not a troublemaker. I’m more of a peacemaker,” Kanter wrote on X.
“The whole world is laughing at you. You have turned the WNBA into a laughingstock. It’s time to stop hiding behind closed-door meetings, excuses, and delays and finally give the public a clear answer,” he added.

Kanter proposed that the summit be moderated by his friend and Olympic icon Jenner, confirming that the 76-year-old has already agreed to participate. Urging Engelbert to defend the league’s position in a public forum, Kanter added:
“Let’s sit across the table from each other, have an open and respectful conversation, and address the questions millions of people are asking… Name the time. Name the place. Let’s talk. Are you in?”
While Kanter’s invitation is framed as an offer for open dialogue, it puts even more pressure on league executives.
Engelbert and the WNBA task force previously met to discuss eligibility policies, but their failure to establish clear, definitive rules has only prolonged the debate. Leaving the policy in limbo remains a bad look for the league.
Until league leadership delivers transparent guidelines, the door remains wide open for individuals like Kanter to continue staging high-profile stunts and pulling headlines away from the court.
