The Tennessee Titans waived quarterback Will Levis on Sunday as part of final roster cuts. After electing to have right shoulder surgery last year, Levis was placed on injured reserve and missed the entire 2025 season as the Titans selected Cam Ward No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Cincinnati Bengals legend Chad Johnson was adamant that despite getting cut by the Titans, Levis could still be a competent backup in the NFL.
Chad Johnson Addresses Will Levis’s NFL Future
During Sunday’s segment of the “Nightcap” show, Johnson predicted that an NFL team would sign Levis to be a backup.
“He’s getting picked up, absolutely, he’s getting picked up,” Johnson said. “A change of scenery is always good. I’m not sure where the scenery is that he does go; he won’t have the opportunity to be a starter, but he has the opportunity to be a backup, and he could be a good backup for a very long time in this NFL and make very good money doing so.”
Levis played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Kentucky Wildcats before being selected No. 33 overall by the Titans in the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite starting the season as the third-string quarterback, Levis finished his rookie season as the Titans’ QB1. He tallied 1,808 passing yards, 8 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
In 2024, Levis registered 2,091 passing yards on 63.1% completion, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 12 games. The Titans were in a rebuilding phase, and Levis was forced to play behind a porous offensive line.

The team finished the season with a 3-14 record (2-10 with Levis under center). He finished No. 39 in PFN’s QB Impact score rankings.
Ward’s arrival in Tennessee as the No. 1 overall pick last year signaled the end of Levis’s stint with the team. After the Titans’ final preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday, Levis thanked the franchise for the opportunity to play in the NFL.
“Very grateful,” Levis said. “Ms. Amy [Adams-Strunk] brought me in here and welcomed me with open arms, as well as everyone in Nashville with the team. I grew a lot in my time with the Titans and wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.”
The Titans signed veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to a two-year, $10.5 million deal during the offseason, who usurped Levis as Ward’s backup. Trubisky had the added advantage of playing under offensive coordinator Brian Daboll with the Buffalo Bills.
Several NFL teams still have an unclear picture in their quarterback rooms, and Levis might be an appealing prospect for such franchises.
