Updated Kenneth Walker III Fantasy Outlook 2026: Why Chiefs RB Is a Trustable Option

Kenneth Walker III has explosive traits, but it's never really translated to fantasy football upside. Is this the season he puts it all together?

Kenneth Walker joins the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2026 season after ending last year as the most important player in the most important game of the year. His underwhelming usage in Seattle prior to the Zach Charbonnet injury was likely a team preference rather than a player defect, and that’s why the industry is excited about his potential under the wing of Andy Reid.

Should I Draft Kenneth Walker in Fantasy Football?

And I think that’s right.

The Seahawks did not favor his running style and capped his workload. That became painfully obvious over the years, and it wasn’t until his running back shredded his knee that Walker got a bell cow role and thrived with it.

The Chiefs are currently navigating a Patrick Mahomes injury situation. The team will likely take a cautious approach with their quarterback early, not in an active/inactive way, but in terms of offensive scheme and design. Kansas City could rely heavily on play-action passing to keep defenses honest, replacing the rushing threat Mahomes provided last season and let’s not overthink this: effective play-action requires a consistent run game.

Over the past five seasons, Kansas City has ranked 25th or worse in running back carries gaining 10 or more yards. The team acquired Walker to address this exact issue. Since entering the league, Walker ranks eighth among all running backs in the percentage of carries gaining at least 10 yards at 12.%. That’s a higher rate than Christian McCaffrey over that period of time and a handful of other RBs that we target on an annual basis.

From a carry-to-carry standpoint, Walker lacks stability. He often fluctuates between short gains and sudden breakaways, much like 2024 Saquon Barkley. However, fantasy leagues measure points by the game, not by the quarter.

I think that, in this environment, Walker provides a profile that fantasy managers can trust. With an increased workload and an offensive scheme desperate for his specific skill set, he projects as a valuable fantasy asset. There’s no real competition for work on this roster and we could be looking at a skeleton key to get this franchise back where they want to be after a down year.
