Updated J.K. Dobbins Fantasy Outlook 2026: Broncos RB Is a September Rental

J.K. Dobbins returns to the Broncos as the presumptive starter, but does that make him an appealing fantasy running back?

Evaluating J.K. Dobbins’ fantasy football stock presents a dilemma between undeniable efficiency and a brutal injury history.

Should I Draft J.K. Dobbins in Fantasy Football?

Entering his age-27 season, Dobbins still offers explosive upside when he is on the field. Last season, he posted a stellar 5.0 yards per carry on 15.3 attempts per game, proving that he can produce starter-level fantasy numbers whenever he commands a legitimate workload. That level of efficiency gives fantasy managers genuine hope, but the durability concerns are simply impossible to ignore after he missed four or more games in each of the past five seasons.

That health profile makes him an exceptionally risky asset over a full schedule, especially considering the changing landscape in Denver with Jonah Coleman in the mix. This has suddenly become a crowded backfield where touches will likely be divided across a committee. Furthermore, the high-profile addition of Jaylen Waddle gives this Broncos offense another elite, non-Dobbins way to produce, taking pressure off the run game while funneling high-value targets away from the backfield as a whole.

Given these factors, Dobbins looks much more like a temporary, early-season option than a lasting fantasy solution. He can certainly provide an immediate scoring boost in September and maybe slightly beyond that, but relying on him for a late-year playoff push is a dangerous proposition. Because of that volatility, Coleman is the back, at cost, that I’m landing on most often in Denver. Coleman offers a far more sensible, low-cost investment with the three-down upside to completely take over if/when injuries strike the top of the depth chart.
