Seattle Seahawks quarterback Jalen Milroe had an inauspicious outing in the second week of preseason, throwing 2 bizarre interceptions in a rough 19-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Shannon Sharpe was less than complimentary of Milroe’s performance on his “Nightcap” podcast.

After an outing like this, it’s unlikely Milroe will be named QB2 behind their Super Bowl-winning quarterback Sam Darnold. It seems far more likely that Drew Lock will be given that nod, with Milroe settling as the third quarterback on the roster as a developmental option.
Frankly, he can’t complain after this performance, which was so poor that it wouldn’t be surprising if he ended up on the practice squad by the end of preseason.
Milroe’s second-half outing saw him finish with a passer rating of just 27.7, throwing for just 52 yards, being sacked twice, and throwing two head-scratching interceptions.

Shannon Sharpe, the former legendary tight end, on his podcast “Nightcap,” alongside Chad Johnson and Joe Johnson, was far from impressed with Milroe in his post-game synopsis.
“I don’t know what he saw,” Sharpe said. “That first interception, I rewound it, and I still don’t know what he saw… (he threw it) like the DB ran the short-cross. I’m like, bro, what are you doin’? Then he came back and had another one!”
The first interception: Milroe appeared to be very late with his read and telegraphed his throw up the middle despite his target, Montorie Foster Jr, being covered, allowing linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. to jump the route and complete the interception. It was a rookie mistake that a second-year quarterback probably shouldn’t be making.

Furthermore, Seahawks reporter Gregg Bell described it as “alarming” in his post. “Milroe does what usually results in NFL interceptions: Throws late over the middle.”

The second interception wasn’t much better for Milroe. In his own end zone, he attempted to escape the pocket and throw on the run, but was again late on his read and forced his throw straight into the welcoming arms of Derrick Canteen. This mistake followed a sack on 4th and 3, when he was indecisive and couldn’t get the ball out.
It isn’t unusual for young quarterbacks to be taken aback by the speed of the NFL compared to college, where he was highly regarded at Alabama.
With refinement, coaching, and experience, he may return to the prospect that enticed the Seahawks to draft him in the 3rd round of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he will have to play much better moving forward.
