‘Worth Taking a Flyer On’ — NFL Reporter Lists Chiefs, Texans Among Landing Spots for 8-Time Pro Bowler

With major question marks surrounding the Texans and Chiefs, one reporter has a veteran in mind that could fix their WR issues.

With less than a month remaining before the new season kicks off, the focus for many teams is on training camp and the preseason to make internal improvements to the roster. However, as injuries alter their roster dynamics, some might look to add more talent to their locker room.

For one analyst, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans fall in that boat. The former, after barely making a move to improve their wide receiver corps, and the latter, after losing one of its potential starters for the season, could aim to add a veteran to their core.

Chiefs and Texans Need Playmakers

Last season, both the Chiefs and the Texans were underwhelming offensively. Kansas City finished at number 13 on PFN’s Offense Impact Metric, while Houston dropped all the way to number 21.

For both teams, some of those numbers could be attributed to injuries. For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL near the end of the season, while both Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy missed significant chunks of the year.

The Texans, on the other hand, had C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins miss some games, while Tank Dell was out for the entire season. Neither team, though, has made any major upgrades to their passing game, as they expect improved health to carry them forward.

But while the Texans have the star power, at least on paper, a torn ACL has sidelined Jayden Higgins for the entire season. Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ receiving corps looks far from a unit that is poised to compete for a playoff spot.

As a result, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, who was making a case for Tyreek Hill to find his next team in the NFL, had those two squads near the top of the list. He believed that the eight-time Pro Bowler could be a needle mover for some team later down the line.

“We very conceivably could see him not be on the field this season,” Wilson said about Hill. “But he was just so incredibly dynamic before that terrible knee injury that you wonder, if a team gets desperate and we get into October, November, December, and you’re down the stretch with Tyreek Hill, even at 65-70%, be worth taking a flyer on? I think the answer is yes.”

And he even had a few specific teams in mind where the former Super Bowl champion could make the biggest impact.

“The Texans, they just lost Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL; they could certainly be in the running,” Wilson added. “The Kansas City Chiefs’ reunion will always be a talking point.”

Wilson also floated the Los Angeles Chargers as the third potential landing spot for Hill, whose agent earlier today confirmed that the star wideout could possibly sign with a team closer to the playoffs.

It remains to be seen what the exact timeline for Hill’s recovery from injury will be. But as Wilson detailed, there is a spot on multiple NFL teams for him if and when he returns to the field, even if in a diminished role compared to what he previously had.
