Josh Allen has yet to bring a Super Bowl to upstate New York, but many fantasy football championships have been claimed on his back, and 2026 shapes up to be another season in which the Bills signal-caller leaves his imprint on your league.
But is the hefty price tag worth it for a one-and-done position in a sport that gives us video game numbers on a weekly basis from a variety of quarterbacks?
Should You Draft Josh Allen in Fantasy Football?
During the 2000s, there have been five instances in which a quarterback threw for 3,500 yards and 25 TDs while also running for at least 10 scores:
- 2015 Cam Newton
- 2020 Kyler Murray
- 2023 Josh Allen
- 2024 Josh Allen
- 2025 Josh Allen
We are talking about a unique talent who plays with enough recklessness to give us elite upside while not putting himself at major risk (127 consecutive regular-season starts, the longest active streak and the eighth most in the history of the sport).

The Bills brought in DJ Moore this offseason to try to plug a leak in this offense (Stefon Diggs is the only player Allen has ever gotten to 1,100 receiving yards in a season), giving their QB yet another outlet to elite fantasy production.
The rise of the Patriots means that the Bills will have competition throughout the season within the AFC East, and that means the risk of you losing QB1 during your fantasy Super Bowl is lower than it has been in years past.
As Allen prepares for his age-30 season, there is essentially no argument against him sitting atop the QB hierarchy in all formats. That said, have we gotten to the point where his ADP is prohibitive?
Allen’s Redraft Fantasy Football Value
Every league is different, but in average-sized, one-QB leagues, the Allen discussion starts at the end of Round 2 and gets louder with every pick that passes.
He posted 10 top-10 finishes at the position in 2025 and has scored north of 15 fantasy points in 79.2% of his games over the past three seasons. The week-over-week dominance is what makes this a question: he’s not simply carrying you on the massive weeks; he’s keeping you competitive even on his worst days.
Other positions don’t give you that.
- Chase Brown’s first top-20 game came in Week 7
- Nico Collins wasn’t a top-10 WR from Weeks 4-12
- Brock Bowers had a TD in just one game before Thanksgiving
Other QBs don’t give you that.
- Lamar Jackson has missed time in six of the seven years as the starter in Baltimore
- Jalen Hurts had just three weekly finishes better than QB7
- Kyler Murray and Jordan Love have fewer 20-point games over the past two seasons as Allen had in 2025
So yes, from a sheer math perspective, the mean outcome, both weekly and annually, for Buffalo’s franchise QB justifies this spot on the ADP board.
That, however, doesn’t mean that you have to draft him. If you think Caleb Williams or Trevor Lawrence can build on what we saw from last season, their draft day discount allows you to build a superteam around them, whereas drafting Allen comes with an opportunity cost.

You could make the case for any number of QBs being drafted far later who have the chance to provide great bang-for-your-buck, but in doing so, you leave yourself vulnerable in a way that a team with Allen rostered simply doesn’t.
The price could prove to be a touch too much, but are you going to lose your league because Allen is on your team?
Allen’s Dynasty Fantasy Football Value
The top few tiers in the dynasty rankings have gotten crowded of late. Allen’s era has been strong (Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes being the primary options in this age range), but there’s a chance that the incoming classes could be better.
Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and Caleb Williams have all already flashed high-end upside, and all are at least four years younger than Allen. Jaxson Dart was special when he was on the field as a rookie, Cam Ward is getting help in the supporting cast, and there is a lot to like in the profile of Fernando Mendoza, all of whom are at least six years Allen’s junior.

Allen is still the dynasty QB1, and that’s unlikely to change until there are tangible signs of aging. He plays a physical brand of football, and that’s certainly a risk as he crosses into his 30s, but fantasy teams are like the Bills right now in the train of thought that they can compete at the highest level with #17 on their roster.
It is important, however, to remember that not all situations are created equal. Allen holds tremendous value now and over the next few seasons, but if that doesn’t align with your team’s trajectory, it’s important to keep all options open.
Allen is at the peak of his powers right now, and if your team is stuck in the cellar, moving him could be the best way to take future steps forward, given what competitive teams will be willing to sacrifice in the future to chase short-term glory.
