After a difficult rookie season, Shedeur Sanders arrived at Cleveland Browns training camp with a clear target: winning the starting quarterback job. To do that, Sanders must beat Deshaun Watson, who has returned after recovering from multiple Achilles injuries.
In the middle of that QB battle, Sanders has continued making time for the community. That commitment recently caught the attention of Browns legend Bernie Kosar, who visited camp and watched the quarterback interact with fans.
Browns Icon Bernie Kosar Praises Shedeur Sanders’ Community Work
During Kosar’s second day at camp, he joined Sanders for an interview and made it clear why he had developed such strong admiration for the young passer.
“I was joking with some people about my real respect for you, and I’m not saying this just to be a suck-up here early in the interview and stuff,” Kosar said. “What you do with the younger kids, with the grade school, the high school, the college kids, it’s absolutely commendable.”
Throughout camp, Sanders greeted children, signed autographs, handed out handshakes, and spent time talking with them.
Kosar also praised Shedeur’s maturity and explained that Sanders’ work stands out because of how much he balances while competing for a starting role.
“People have said, man, Shedeur does as much stuff philanthropically in the community as I do, and I’m an older guy who has time to do that. I’m massively impressed at how much you’re able to do now because I’m getting a lot of credit for doing a lot of the charity stuff when I played, but I didn’t do anywhere near as much as you.”
Sanders also hosted a free youth football camp on July 19 for over 500 children from local schools at Brooklyn High School in Ohio. The event, held alongside Browns Give Back, featured football drills before ending with a surprise giveaway for competition winners.

During the event, the campers embraced every moment with the NFL quarterback.
“I’m truly excited that they’re excited to see me,” Sanders said of the reaction. “I would say most of the time, usually as athletes and everything, we’re isolated more. So it’s about getting in the community and just seeing everybody and seeing the inspiration that we give just by showing up. And it’s a very simple task, so I truly appreciate it.”
Sanders has consistently supported local families, youth sports, and community programs throughout his career.
After a devastating gas explosion damaged the Garden Valley Apartments in Cleveland last July, he sponsored a large charitable event that helped nearly 1,000 residents. He also sponsored free haircuts, hot meals, food trucks, and activities for affected families.
Sanders also launched his “2Legendary” youth football camps in communities such as Brooklyn, Ohio. Those camps give underserved children free football gear while creating opportunities for mentorship and personal growth.
