His previous answer has not changed. Patrick has said since 2023 that he wants to retire in early 2028, after Super Bowl 62. He has even joked that these final years are his “retirement tour.” But with every new interview or conversation about his future, listeners keep wondering if he’ll actually leave when the time comes.
That question came up again during Wednesday’s episode of “The Dan Patrick Show.” A caller asked what would happen if Patrick’s wife told him she did not want him to retire. Would he reconsider?
Patrick said they’ve already had that conversation. His wife hasn’t issued a declaration that she doesn’t want him to retire, but she has asked whether he’ll be happy, whether he’ll be able to watch the show, and whether he’ll find other things to do.
He said those are questions he asks himself, too. Nevertheless, they haven’t changed his plans. As he explained why he’s sticking to his timeline, Patrick looked back on the end of his ESPN career, saying:
“I want to go out where I’m proud of what I’m doing. Like ESPN. I left ESPN, and I wasn’t proud of what I was doing. Now, it had nothing to do with my abilities. It just had to do with a mindset. ESPN had changed. I had changed. And I wasn’t proud of the last couple of years I did SportsCenter. But here, I do love coming in every single day.”

After spending decades in sports media, he said he knows he’ll miss it. But at 70 years old, he does not want to keep pushing the finish line farther away.
After his comments, fans and fellow media members shared messages thanking him for everything he has brought to sports broadcasting.

Patrick still has about a year and a half before his planned retirement, which means the questions probably won’t go away anytime soon. But if his latest comments are any indication, neither is his decision.
