‘Don’t Think It’s Just Bad Luck’ — NFL Analyst Gets 100% Real on Josh Allen’s Bills’ Inability To Win Super Bowl

One analyst doesn't believe luck is the reason for the lack of Super Bowl success for the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen.

The Buffalo Bills have been searching for that elusive Super Bowl for quite some time. After their four consecutive trips to the big game in the 1990s, the franchise dealt with a huge period of inconsistency.

Making the playoffs just once in the 21st century till Josh Allen joined the franchise, they have been far more successful since then. But it hasn’t translated to championship success so far, and one analyst cannot pinpoint a specific reason for their shortcomings.

Josh Allen and the Bills Continue Their Search for the Elusive

Since Allen joined the team, the Bills have been a perennial playoff threat in the AFC. Making the postseason every year since 2018, they have even reached the AFC Championship Game on two occasions.

But they’ve fallen short each time, with four of their seven losses coming to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. However, it hasn’t been a case of one team having its number, as they’ve also suffered losses to the Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans, and, most recently, the Denver Broncos.

In a recent segment of “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd believed it was hard to describe the exact reason for the lack of success for Buffalo in recent years, especially with the management of the organization not being a problem for them.

“The Bills aren’t the Cubs. They’re not poorly run or poorly owned,” Cowherd said. “They’ve had capable GMs, B+ coaches, A+ quarterbacks, and yet they can’t win. I don’t think it’s just bad luck. Buffalo has been competently run, and they can’t win.”

However, even with that vote of approval, their decision to bring in Brady as the new head coach isn’t something he’s fully gotten on board with. As a result, Cowherd believes the former offensive coordinator has a lot to prove for the Bills this upcoming season.

“But there’s no such thing as curses,” he added. “Joe Brady this year is gonna be fascinating, ’cause he wasn’t the best coach on the market, and they hired Joe Brady. And when I looked at who they interviewed beyond Joe Brady, it wasn’t great.”

It remains to be seen how the first-year under Brady goes for the team. The biggest question mark will be the defense, especially after losing a specialist like Sean McDermott from the coaching staff.

The offense, which, according to PFN’s Offense Impact Metric, ranked third last season, at least, should be firing on all cylinders, as the team is bringing back key names like James Cook, while also adding a superstar wide receiver in DJ Moore.

But given their current positioning, the singular goal for the Bills is to win the Super Bowl, so it is hard to imagine Brady being judged by any other metric.
