Alexander Zverev has shared a rare insight into his relationship with German model, actress, and presenter Sophia Thomalla, revealing his plans for their future together. Zverev, who has a five-year-old daughter, Mayla, with his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea, shed light on his dreams of having a big family but left the timeline entirely up to Thomalla.
Alexander Zverev Opens Up About His ‘Private Relationship’ with Sophia Thomalla
Zverev recently clinched his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open. While Sophia Thomalla wasn’t in Paris to witness his victory, she quickly boarded a train from Cologne to join him for the celebrations. She also accompanied the world No. 3 to the WorldChanger Days charity event in Kitzbühel ahead of Wimbledon.
In an interview with RTL+ at the event, Zverev gushed over Thomalla, opening up about his immense love and respect for his girlfriend. He praised the 36-year-old for having an exceptional sense of when he needed space and when he wanted her support.
“Sophia is incredibly smart. Of course, I love her and she’s been my partner for almost five years, but above all, I have immense respect for her. For me, she’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. Because she understands exactly these kinds of things. She knows when you want to be left alone. She also knows when support is needed. She’s an incredible help to me in my life as well,” Zverev said.
Despite both being high-profile public figures, the world No. 3 noted that they have kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight, offering only occasional glimpses on social media.
“I actually think we don’t have a very public relationship at all. Sure, people write about us from time to time and speculate about things, some of which aren’t true, or even 99% of the time,” he said. “But I think we actually keep ourselves well out of the public eye. We keep our private life private. Of course, we occasionally post a photo together with our two dachshunds. But otherwise, we have a relatively private relationship.”
Zverev also spoke about wanting a “huge family” but left the timing up to Thomalla. “You’ll have to ask Sophia that,” he said with a laugh. “I love children, I love huge families, I love dogs. There will be more dogs.”

The German acknowledged that having children would require one of them to cut back on their demanding careers. However, he emphasized that he is not putting any pressure on Thomalla to make that sacrifice, while her career thrives.
“I think it’ll be normal for one of us to have to cut back a bit. Otherwise, with children and our jobs, we’ll never see each other again. But I’m not putting any pressure on her at all. Sophia’s doing incredibly well in her own life, and it’s wonderful to see how successful she is. I really enjoy seeing that, because I’m incredibly proud of what she’s doing. So, as I said, it’ll happen when it happens,” he added.
Alexander Zverev has since turned his attention to his Wimbledon campaign, entering the grass-court Major as the No. 2 seed. He will square off against Alexander Blockx in the first round, heading into the contest with a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head record.
