Daniil Medvedev, who has two daughters with his wife, Daria, has shared an amusing insight into their older daughter Alisa’s misadventures on the tennis court, shedding light on how much she mirrors his behavior. The former world No. 1 shared the amusing anecdote after booking his spot in the fourth round of the US Open.

Ahead of his opening match at the US Open, Medvedev revealed that his three-year-old daughter Alisa had inherited his fiery personality on the court. The Russian has since made a strong start to his campaign at the New York Major, advancing to the fourth round without dropping a set.
After claiming a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Arthur Rinderknech in the third round, Medvedev was asked whether a five-set match was more mentally taxing than a day with his daughters, given that Alisa had picked up his intense on-court temperament.
Despite acknowledging the tough choice, the 30-year-old pointed out that even a difficult day with his daughters ultimately remained a positive experience.
“Oh my God. They’re both tough. Impossible to say. I have to say, the day at home with the family, even if sometimes with a daughter mentally can be tough, and some days are amazing, at the end of the day, it’s always a nice experience,” Medvedev said in his on-court interview.
On the other hand, Medvedev spoke about the challenging logistics of dealing with a five-set loss, highlighting both the physical and mental toll involved.
“I have to be honest, when you lose a five-setter, at the end of the day, it’s a very bad experience. Your body hurts, your mind hurts, you lost a match, you have to go home, you have to book your tickets, think about how you practice the next days, what you do. So, definitely better to be at home with the family,” he added.
The former world No. 1 also offered a rare insight into his daughter Alisa’s tennis development, sharing a hilarious story from one of her practice sessions on clay. Despite being happy and showing no signs of frustration, the three-year-old had launched her racket across the court.
Medvedev disclosed that Alisa’s coach had humorously held him responsible for passing the habit on to his daughter.
“I have one funny story. Again, I don’t like to talk too much about my family, but I took her to the practice once on clay. She comes, and she’s happy to play tennis. She doesn’t really watch my matches yet. Even if sometimes I break a racquet, it’s not like every match I throw the racquet 65 times,” he said.
“She’s happy, so she did it not out of frustration, but she throws the racket through the whole court. The coach looks at me, and she says, ‘I don’t know where she got this from.’ That’s how she is, so probably, if she plays tennis, you guys are going to have a lot of fun,” he added.
On the tennis front, Daniil Medvedev will lock horns with home favorite Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round. As he looks to win his second US Open crown, the Russian will enter the contest with a major advantage, holding a 6-1 lead in their head-to-head record.
