Mirra Andreeva announced herself on tour when she was just 15 years old with a promising run at the 2023 Madrid Open. At the age of 17, she reached the semifinals of the French Open, igniting the belief that she was destined to be a future Grand Slam champion. The Russian has now fulfilled those expectations by triumphing at Roland Garros and clinching her first Major title, much to the delight of the tennis community.
How the Tennis World Reacted to Mirra Andreeva’s French Open Triumph
In a tournament defined by major upsets, including the exits of No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina, defending champion Coco Gauff, four-time French Open winner Iga Świątek, and No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula, Andreeva bucked the trend with a stellar campaign in Paris. The No. 8 seed defeated Fiona Ferro, Marina Bassols Ribera, No. 27 seed Marie Bouzková, and Jil Teichmann en route to the quarterfinals.
The Russian then claimed a clinical 6-0, 6-3 win over No. 18 seed Sorana Cîrstea and cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory against No. 15 seed Marta Kostyuk to reach her first Grand Slam final. Despite the magnitude of the occasion, Andreeva produced a remarkable performance to defeat qualifier Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-2 in the blockbuster final.
With her win, the 19-year-old became the youngest woman to triumph at the French Open since an 18-year-old Monica Seles clinched the title in 1992. Andreeva received an outpouring of praise and admiration from her fellow tennis players and legends of the sport.
Maria Sharapova was among the first to celebrate Andreeva’s achievement, expressing her pride in the teenager.
“Proud of you @_mirraandreeva_. 🥹 The celebration says it all. Excited, but not satisfied. The sign of a champion,” Sharapova wrote.

“Mirra ❤️❤️ congrats 👏,” she commented.

Meanwhile, Eugenie Bouchard couldn’t help but notice Brad Pitt’s enthusiastic reaction from the stands as he watched Andreeva seal her remarkable victory.
