‘Fighting So Many Demons’ — Mirra Andreeva Opens Up About the Help She Received Before French Open Win

Mirra Andreeva credits her psychologist and thanks herself in a remarkably raw victory speech after winning the French Open.

After a two-week tournament, a player’s victory speech usually follows a familiar script: thanking the team, the fans, the sponsors, and the opponent. But for Mirra Andreeva, after she won her first Grand Slam title by defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalińska (6-3, 6-2) at the 2026 French Open, she had a few fun and remarkably raw words to say. The 19-year-old took a moment to give special shoutouts to her mental health coach and herself.

Mirra Andreeva Thanks Herself and Credits Her Psychologist After French Open Win

It was a straight-sets victory, but Andreeva’s opponent, Chwalińska, a world No. 114 qualifier, also deserves some credit, as she beat the likes of Anna Kalinskaya and Diana Schnaider to get to the final.

After the match and hoisting the trophy, Andreeva began her speech by thanking the Pole. She then credited the FFT (French Tennis Federation), the entire Roland Garros organization, her dedicated team, and her parents before shifting focus to her psychologist, Alexis.

“I also have to say a special thanks to my psychologist, Alexis. I know you’re watching somewhere from Florida. Thank you for working with me for about a year and a half. Thank you for making me better and giving me so much advice. Everything that you’ve told me, I’ve been trying to use these two weeks, and I would say that it worked out not bad! So, thank you so much,” she said.

This part of Andreeva’s heartfelt speech points to the tough road she took to get there. Earlier in the 2026 season, the teenager visibly struggled to handle her emotions under pressure.

During her title defense at the Dubai Open, she was seen hitting herself with her racket and crying during a quarterfinal loss to Amanda Anisimova. Just weeks later at Indian Wells, after squandering a lead and losing in the third round to Kateřina Siniaková, Andreeva had a meltdown, throwing her racket and cursing at the crowd as she left the court. She had apologized and spoke about her anger issues afterward as well.

Just a few days ago, she had also revealed that her psychologist taught her to imagine a stop sign when thoughts are racing during high-pressure matches.

Then the most refreshing moment came when she turned the spotlight inward. Inspired by rapper Snoop Dogg, she said, “Last but not least, I also want to thank myself. I want to thank myself for believing in myself, always giving my 100% even when it’s tough, trying every day to be better as a person and as a player, believing that I can do this, and fighting so many demons inside of me. Only I know how tough it was for me and how nervous I was throughout these two weeks. So, thanks to myself for working so hard and giving my best.

Being the youngest ever to win the Roland Garros title since Monica Seles in 1992, Andreeva has a lot ahead of her. After her maiden Grand Slam title, she will now move on to the upcoming grass-court season.
