The New York Jets franchise tagged Breece Hall in March and kept one of their best players from testing the open market. Now they’ve gone a step further, as Hall and the Jets agreed to a three-year deal worth up to $45.75 million extension.
The new deal makes Hall the third-highest paid running back in the league behind Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey. For a franchise that went 3-14 last season and hasn’t made the playoffs in 15 years, locking down the 24-year-old running back signals that general manager Darren Mougey views him as a foundational piece of the rebuild.
Breece Hall’s Extension Cements Him as a Jets Cornerstone Alongside Garrett Wilson
Hall earned this deal after having the best season of his career in 2025. He rushed for 1,065 yards on 243 carries with 4 touchdowns across 16 games, and added 36 catches for 350 yards and 1 receiving touchdown. According to PFSN’s RB Impact Metric, Hall posted an impact score of 70.5, ranking 13th at his position in the league.
With Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams dealt at the 2025 trade deadline for a haul of draft capital, Hall and Garrett Wilson are now the longest-tenured cornerstones on the roster.
Together, they form the offensive foundation on which everything else in this rebuild is being built. Analysts on social media praised the Jets for extending Hall’s contract, as he is a great player who will make things easier for the team’s quarterback.
Breece Hall extended.
Said the two sides would reconvene after the draft. Indeed they have.

“Bang! Maybe [Darren] Mougey knows what he’s doing!” wrote Audacy’s Rami Lavi on X.
“An attractive place to go play for a young QB in 2027,” Dan Orlovsky said about the Jets after Hall agreed to the extension.
Good deal. #Jets have the money.

“The Jets had a ton of trade interest in Breece Hall last year, but resisted because HC Aaron Glenn believed he’s a big part of the future,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz said. “And they show that now with their actions on a big 3-year extension.”
Happy for Breece Hall.
Just wish he wasn’t stuck on the Jets. https://t.co/dgMvo6qZgD— Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT (@jmthrivept) May 8, 2026
The Jets have a reputation for derailing players’ careers, which is why many fans wanted to see Hall move to another team. However, he is now committed to New York and plans to spend his prime years with a team that has a new quarterback.
“Shoutout everyone in my corner. Lot of work left to do. God Bless,” Hall wrote on X after agreeing to the deal.

Hall’s extension eases the transition for Geno Smith, whom Aaron Glenn named the starting quarterback for 2026. Smith inherits an offense that looks dramatically different from the unit that ranked 29th in the league, according to PFSN’s Offense Impact Metric.
Pairing first-round draft picks Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. with Wilson and a fully committed Hall, Smith has more weapons at his disposal than any Jets quarterback has had in years.
The bigger picture favors the Jets regardless of how 2026 plays out. If Smith proves Glenn right and leads a turnaround, their offense is built to lead the team to a successful season and save the head coach’s job.
If the Jets struggle, they own three first-round picks in the 2027 draft and could be in position to pursue a franchise quarterback from a class expected to include Arch Manning and Dante Moore. Either way, whoever is taking snaps under center for the Jets next year and beyond will have a loaded skill group waiting for him.
