The post-draft segment of the NFL offseason is in full swing; teams are now looking to make some final roster additions ahead of the 2026 campaign, and the Green Bay Packers are in focus. The team might’ve largely stayed under the radar with its offseason acquisitions, but there’s a certain move that’ll add solid value to the backfield.
RB Najee Harris Touted As Ideal Candidate To Bolster Packers’ Backfield
Josh Jacobs is the unchallenged leader of Green Bay’s backfield. After a strong, five-year run with the Raiders to start his career, he packed his bags for Wisconsin and never looked back, booking north of 900 yards in both his first two seasons with the Packers. He’s been a revelation in head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense; however, adding some support isn’t a bad idea.
Given the short shelf life of NFL running backs, it’d be wise to rest the superstar whenever you get a chance.
Enter — Najee Harris. In his latest article on the top-25 remaining free agents, PFSN’s Jacob Infante listed Harris as the 25th best player available and named the Packers as his landing spot.
“After his 2025 season, there are more questions than answers about Najee Harris’ NFL future,” Infante wrote. “He played only three games with the Chargers due to injury, and he turned 28 in March. He shouldn’t be expected to take on the workload he did in Pittsburgh earlier in his career, but he should still be effective for depth as a power back.”
Harris’ run as a lead back in the NFL seems to be over, having last featured as a backfield commander in 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His stellar run of recording four straight 1,000-yard campaigns to start his career is nothing to sneeze at; however, injuries derailed his career a bit, forcing him into complementary roles.
With five years of league experience and some fuel left in the tank, Harris would make for a sound rotational piece behind Jacobs in Green Bay. The Packers must be careful with managing Jacobs’s workload as he approaches 30, and they don’t have anyone significant behind the seven-year veteran.
The rest of the team’s backfield consists of Chris Brooks, MarShawn Lloyd, and Pierre Strong Jr. — none of whom are long-term starters.

Green Bay already has a solid passing game, featuring quarterback Jordan Love, wide receivers Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Christian Watson, and tight end Tucker Kraft. Adding another power-back dimension to the backfield in the form of a Pro Bowler like Harris could open up the air attack even more.
Harris has proven his value in high-caliber offenses like the Steelers, having recorded an 81.0 PFSN RB Impact Score in 2021, ranking 22nd in the league.
