‘It’s Going to Be HUGE’ — NFL World Speculates on Dianna Russini’s Next Career Move Amid Mike Vrabel Scandal

What is Dianna Russini’s next career move after the Mike Vrabel scandal? She has at least one job offer, and the NFL world has plenty of reactions.

NFL reporter Dianna Russini’s professional future has become one of the most talked-about storylines in the NFL media landscape. While the Mike Vrabel controversy continues to make headlines, there’s also plenty of conversation about what comes next for the longtime insider in the aftermath of her resignation from The Athletic.

While Russini has remained silent publicly since stepping away, voices across the industry have begun speculating about her next move.

What Is Dianna Russini’s Next Career Move After Mike Vrabel Scandal?

Shortly after Russini resigned, longtime media personality Jon “Stugotz” Weiner made it clear that she had a standing offer to join his show.

“If Dianna Russini decides one day, three months from now, a year from now, two years from now, that she wants to get back into this game, she has a place right here…” Stugotz said. “The offer holds forever.”

His comments came in response to the swirling uncertainty about whether Russini would be able to land another major role in NFL media. OutKick’s Bobby Burack questioned the financial and professional viability of such a move.

“Russini made right around $1 million a year at The Athletic,” Burack wrote. “She wouldn’t get anywhere close to that working as [Stugotz’s] sidekick for a radio show in mid-size markets.”

When asked about other platforms, including Barstool Sports, Burack expressed deeper concerns about her long-term value as a reporter.

“The issue is her value is tied to NFL insight. I suspect sources will be more reluctant to talk to her now, as they will be accused of sleeping with her. I don’t think Russini would have much success in podcasting, even if she goes Call Her Daddy. Joy Taylor is trying that now by talking about her sex life, and the numbers are low,” Burack noted.

That skepticism reflects a broader concern within the industry — whether Russini can rebuild trust with sources, which is essential for any insider role. Others, though, believe her next move will be more calculated.

“I would assume her next career move will be well-workshopped and planned quite strategically,” said former Miami Marlins president David P. Samson, pointing to the likelihood of a carefully managed comeback rather than an immediate return.

Big Cat of Barstool Sports, who is a longtime friend and collaborator of Russini’s, also weighed in. He offered a more balanced take, highlighting the evolving media landscape, where traditional outlets are no longer the only path to relevance.

“I don’t know if I wouldn’t hire her,” he said. “I don’t know if she’d want to work with us because we’ve made some jokes, and I totally understand [that], but we have to make the jokes that we make. It sucks that she had to leave her job. I think a lot of it was her own doing, but we’re in a time now where you can be independent.

“She can start a Substack. She can start her own podcast. And if you are someone who has an audience or can break news, people will follow that, so there is a second act somewhere for her. I don’t know what exactly it looks like. There’s just too many avenues that people can take, especially the independent route, and make a good living in the sports world that I would be shocked if that was it for her.”

Veteran NFL insider John McClain added his perspective to the discussion on his appearance on “OutKick Hot Mic,” focusing on the personal impact of the situation. The clip from the podcast was shared on X, with a caption, “Whatever Russini does next… it’s going to be HUGE.”

“Mike makes millions and millions of dollars,” McClain said. “He can hire security, even she can do, but not to the extent that he can. She’s going to be more on her own once she starts to get out, because people that wouldn’t have recognized her before now, you don’t have to be a big NFL fan to know who Dianna Russini is. Dianna’s been out there for a long time, but that’s mainly for NFL people.”

His remarks underline how the controversy has expanded Russini’s public visibility beyond typical football audiences, bringing both recognition and scrutiny.

Russini’s next chapter remains uncertain. Whether she re-enters mainstream sports media, pivots to an independent platform, or takes time away from the spotlight altogether, one thing is clear: the NFL world will be watching closely to see what comes next for her.
