The Dianna Russini scandal with Mike Vrabel has been one of the biggest talking points in the entire sports world. Even after the draft, it has remained fresh in the minds of most people, with major consequences for both parties.
The repercussions have been severe already, but it may have caused a lasting impact on the individuals as well. The veteran reporter’s friend, who has gotten in touch with her after the scandal, believes it has caused a significant change in her behavior and personality already.
Dianna Russini Dealing With the Aftermath of the Mike Vrabel Scandal
Since the pictures from Arizona first went public, the story has spread like wildfire. From resurfaced interview moments and suspicious old posts on X, to tampering allegations and even an alleged Spotify playlist, the saga has featured plenty of twists and turns.
Russini resigned from The Athletic, while Vrabel stepped away from the New England Patriots on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft to enter counseling, and he has admitted to having some “difficult conversations” in the aftermath of the photos leaking.
During the latest episode of “Stugotz and Company,” veteran radio host Stugotz revealed what a recent conversation with Russini, his close friend and longtime collaborator, sounded like, and how it was different from previous dialogues between the two.
“I am telling you when I talked to Dianna on the phone, it’s not the same Dianna,” Stugotz said. “If that makes people feel better or feel worse, I don’t really give a sh*t. I’m just telling you that zest, that kind of bounce in her step, that pep in her step, when I talk to her, I don’t hear it nearly as much as I used to, obviously.”
Stugotz also noted that he has a standing offer out to Russini if she wants to join the show as she weighs her career options. Jon Weiner, better known as Stugotz at work, has been one of the most active members in sports radio, building his legacy for over two decades.
However, on the Russini matter, he found some of the commentary extremely frustrating, adding, “That should go without saying. To suggest that Dianna isn’t feeling this and her family isn’t impacted by this is laugh-out-loud funny. They’re impacted.”

Stepping down from The Athletic was a big change in her career, and so far, Russini has remained away from the public eye; she even deleted her X account. She is yet to showcase her version of events, and that could prove to divulge all of the specific details about this scandal.
It remains to be seen if and when that does come to pass. But for the time being, Stugotz’s report does make it clear that the secret being exposed has altered her life in more ways than one.

Does she have to “showcase” her side of the story? Why?
