Deadlines spur action, and that could ultimately wind up being the case with the Philadelphia Eagles and disgruntled receiver A.J. Brown.
The three-time Pro Bowler has been the subject of trade talks for quite some time now after a frustrating season with the Eagles, but the team has remained stagnant in their desire (or lack thereof) to deal him. With the NFL Draft next week, that could change.
Howie Roseman Sends Clear Message About A.J. Brown
Teams around the league, including the Eagles, are going to want to shape their rosters in the manner they see fit ahead of the 2026 regular season. That includes either loading up on draft picks or parting ways with them to acquire a superstar player.
Brown would fit that description. He registered a career low in yards per reception last season in Philadelphia and surpassed the 1,000-yard milestone by a measly three yards while discontent and agitation seemed to loom over the franchise, so a change of scenery could be ideal for everyone involved. However, general manager Howie Roseman may disagree.
Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni spoke to the media on Tuesday and fielded several questions, including what the plan is with Brown. Judging by Roseman’s tone, Brown may not be the only agitated one.

“What do you think the odds are that I’m answering this question any differently than I answer it anywhere else?” Roseman asked the reporter, almost rhetorically. Roseman has discussed the topic ad nauseam, and the repeated song and dance have yielded the same result each time.
“Like, really, do you think that’s 50%? 75%? A.J. Brown is an Eagle,” he reaffirmed.
NFL analyst Kyle Brandt, like others, found Roseman’s response funny. “My favorite sport right now is watching Howie and Nick answer these questions over and over, without ever saying that AJ will be an Eagle Week 1,” he wrote on X.
Speculation may have been fueled this past week when the Eagles acquired another wideout to fortify the room. They traded a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for Dontayvion Wicks, a former fifth-round pick of the team in 2023.
Wicks is the third new face to join the Eagles’ receiving corps this offseason. They also signed Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and Elijah Moore, each to a one-year deal.
Whether or not the Eagles decide to part ways with Brown may strictly come down to the financial aspect of the decision. If they trade him prior to June 1, he’ll leave them with a dead cap charge of $43.45 million.

If the move comes after that date, that number deflates to $16.35 million, according to Over The Cap. Of course, they won’t be able to weaponize any 2026 draft picks they may receive for him if they were to wait.
Brown is still under contract with the Eagles, and while his 2025 season was underwhelming, he remains one of the most talented receivers in the league. Since being traded to Philadelphia in 2022, Brown has averaged an 87.5 (B+) score on PFSN’s NFL WR Impact Metric.
