Jon Sumrall Issues Blunt Message to Recruits As Florida Stays Hot on the Trail

Florida has six committed players in the 2027 class, ranking No. 9 in the nation and No. 2 in the SEC, according to Rivals. The Gators have secured back-to-back commitments in recent days and are trending with multiple prospects in the class.

Head coach Jon Sumrall carries momentum as Florida continues to build its recruiting class.

Florida Continues 2027 Recruitment Momentum

“The guys who have come here to visit, most of them came back,” Sumrall said on Saturday. “I think they know the energy is real. I tell recruits, ‘If you don’t like me now, you won’t like me later.’ I’m staying the same.”

Florida received a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller on Wednesday, marking the program’s highest-ranked commitment on the offensive line since Martez Ivey in 2015.

Hiller is the first five-star recruit of Sumrall’s tenure. He joins a Florida offense that ranked No. 56 in the PFSN College Football Offense Impact Metric last season. Hiller is the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the 2027 class and the No. 5 overall recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports.

“What they’re building down there, I feel like they are building something special,” Hiller told Rivals about Florida. “From talking to the players and getting closer to other recruits, I feel like everybody else is on the same page.

“With coach Sumrall, we clicked like that during the first meeting we ever had. He had a lot of energy, and with him being a former SEC linebacker, I feel like you have to have some type of mentality. I feel like we have a similar mentality and vision for a lot of stuff.”

Florida followed with the commitment of four-star quarterback Davin Davidson on Friday. Davidson is the No. 11 quarterback in the 2027 class and a top-15 recruit in the state, according to Rivals.

Sumrall flipped four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain from South Carolina on Saturday. The 2027 class prospect committed to the Gamecocks on Jan. 2, but Sumrall’s staff continued recruiting him.

“Coach Sumrall has no fear,” Fountain told Rivals. “He’s not scared to go hard. He wins – and he backs it up. He’s been involved with me from the beginning. He calls me, FaceTimes me and told me I was his guy. We just clicked.”

Fountain holds offers from programs including Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia Tech. He is ranked as the No. 25 overall recruit in the 2027 class and the No. 4 cornerback in the nation, according to Rivals.

Florida’s 2027 class also features athlete Tramond Collins, cornerback Amare Nugent, and tight end Jackson Ballinger.
