Dolphins Floated As Potential Landing Spot for 75-TD WR After Surprise Jaylen Waddle Trade

A complete teardown from Miami led to Jaylen Waddle finding a new home, but one analyst believes the Dolphins need more weapons.

The Miami Dolphins finally bit the bullet. After a brief spurt with Tua Tagovailoa, it became clear that the team was going nowhere when it came to contention. As a result, they underwent almost a complete overhaul of the roster and staff.

Now, they’re walking into a new season with Jeff Hafley as the new head coach and Malik Willis as the quarterback. However, the weapons around those two are at best suspect. As a result, one analyst believes they can take a flyer on a veteran wide receiver.

Miami Dolphins Need Some Help Around Malik Willis

After some strong performances as the backup for Jordan Love on the Green Bay Packers, Willis was among the most sought-after names in free agency. Ultimately, he decided to stick with a familiar face, Hafley, and join the Dolphins.

But the immediate situation isn’t all too positive for a young quarterback trying to prove himself in the NFL. After letting Tyreek Hill go and trading Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos, Miami has fully embraced the rebuild.

However, that has deserted the offense as a whole with no wide receiver inside the top-75 of PFSN’s WR Impact on the roster. As a result, PFSN’s Deputy Editor, Alex Kennedy, believes the Dolphins could be the perfect team to take a swing at Stefon Diggs.

He immediately acknowledged the concerns regarding the veteran wide receiver. “Stefon Diggs got released by the New England Patriots a week before free agency, and he is still unsigned in April. There are certainly some red flags when it comes to Diggs, particularly off the field.”

But a rebuilding team like the Dolphins, which has a longer timeline than most other organizations, can take the jump with Diggs. If he can be a productive asset for them, it could help them establish their quarterback situation with Willis.

And, the former Buffalo Bills star does bring some incredible upside with him. “But on the field, Diggs is still playing at an extremely high level,” Kennedy noted. “He finished fourth in the NFL in PFSN’s WR Impact Metric despite coming off a torn ACL, finishing the season with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns.”

A legendary 11-year career has seen him eclipse over 11,000 receiving yards and 75 total touchdowns in the NFL. But he is still at his most valuable when bringing out the best in a young quarterback.

“He played a big role in Drake Maye’s MVP-runner-up campaign,” Kennedy added. “Yet the Patriots ultimately decided to move on and sign Romeo Doubs instead.” Previously, he had a similar impact on Josh Allen, and the overall results are clear to see.

Even though it is a risky proposition to bring him in, the Dolphins are among the few teams that can afford to take that risk. And if things work out in their favor, they could answer a lot of the questions that plague them this offseason.
