Mark Matthews Names Final 4 Schools as Miami Emerges as Favorite for No. 1 OT

Mark Matthews names his final four schools as the hometown Hurricanes emerge as the heavy favorite for the Five-Star Plus+ tackle.

Mark Matthews just trimmed the noise, and the recruiting world felt it. The Five-Star Plus+ offensive tackle out of Fort Lauderdale is no longer entertaining a crowded field. Instead, he’s locked in on four heavyweights, and the ripple effects are already hitting the 2027 class landscape.

While SEC powers circle and pitch, the hometown pull is getting louder. With spring visits underway, Matthews’ recruitment is entering its most decisive phase yet.

Five-Star Plus+ OT Mark Matthews Narrowing Recruitment to Four Schools

Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett reported on April 4, 2026, that Five-Star Plus+ offensive tackle Mark Matthews has narrowed his recruitment to Georgia, LSU, Miami, and Texas A&M. The St. Thomas Aquinas standout, ranked No. 3 overall and the nation’s top offensive tackle in the 2027 class, is officially in the final stretch of his decision-making process.

Miami is the early frontrunner. According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, the Hurricanes hold a 100% projection to land the 6-foot-6, 300-pound lineman. That edge comes from a mix of proximity, relationships, and long-standing interest. Matthews visited the Hurricanes on Thursday and returned to campus again on Saturday.

The Hurricanes’ pitch hits home, literally. Playing close to Fort Lauderdale, combined with strong ties to offensive line coach Alex Mirabal and head coach Mario Cristobal, has kept Miami firmly in control. If that momentum holds, Matthews would instantly become the crown jewel of their 2027 class.

Still, do not rule out Texas A&M. The Aggies have consistently been labeled as the primary challenger. Mike Elko’s program has surged on the recruiting trail, recently returning to No. 1 nationally in the team rankings after landing elite EDGE Zyron Forstall. Adding Matthews would solidify that top spot and give A&M a dominant trench identity moving forward.

Georgia and LSU remain very much alive, but they are playing catch-up. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs continue to sell development and winning culture, while LSU is pushing opportunity and early impact.

On April 4, 2026, Matthews outlined what stands out about his top contenders:

Miami: “Coach Mirabal, coach Cristobal and they are right down the road.”

Texas A&M: “It’s just that feeling. I stepped on campus, I really do like it. The coaching staff… my family likes A&M, I like A&M, we’ll just see where this road goes.”

Georgia: “Just a winning team… going from a really good head coach to another really good head coach… they want to go work every day.”

The profile backs the hype. Matthews is not just the No. 1 offensive tackle; he is the No. 1 player in Florida and a consensus top-five national prospect. His Five-Star Plus+ designation means he is universally elite across major recruiting platforms, not just one service.

This is a program-changing recruitment. Miami leads. Texas A&M lurks. Georgia and LSU wait for a swing. And with visits ahead, the clock is officially ticking.
