Eva Lys Remains Hopeful After Charleston Open Exit, Drawing Support From Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa

Lys entered the Credit One Charleston Open after concluding her run at the WTA 1000 Miami Open, where she lost in the round of 128 in straight sets to Yuliia Starodubtseva. Before competing at Hard Rock Stadium, the German star withdrew late from the Indian Wells Open due to a knee injury.

Her knee injury has been ongoing since she competed in the first Grand Slam of the season, where she was defeated in the first round by Sorana Cîrstea. However, Lys had competed in the Indian Wells tournament in her last season, playing in the round of 64.

At Credit One Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina, Lys faced a round of 64 loss to the former world No. 56 with a concluding scoreline of 5-7, 6-2, 6-0. The Kyiv, Ukraine, native clinched a close first set and then lost the last two in two hours and 13 minutes.

Through her Instagram post, Lys highlighted her wins while remaining uplifted about her upcoming progress. She added in the caption, “0 sets in miami, 1 set in charleston… now we gotta trust the process 🤓.”

Meanwhile, Badosa, competing at the Charleston Open as a Wild Card, has clinched her first win after defeating former world No. 84 American Kayla Day in the round of 64. The tournament’s defending champion is Jessica Pegula, and it features a lineup of stars, including Ekaterina Alexandrova, Belinda Bencic, Madison Keys, Maria Sakkari, and others.
