Emmanuel Acho Rips Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones for Mishandling George Pickens’ Contract Situation

Emmanuel Acho blasts Jerry Jones for mishandling George Pickens' contract, warning of a repeat of the Micah Parsons disaster.

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys find themselves at another crossroads with wide receiver George Pickens’ contract up for negotiation. Pickens proved extremely productive in his first year in Arlington, posting an 88.4 PFSN WR Impact rating. The Cowboys would like to retain his services as the 25-year-old approaches his prime.

Emmanuel Acho Criticizes Jerry Jones Over Cowboys’ Contract Negotiations

The team, however, has been in this situation before. The Cowboys previously faced a similar high-stakes negotiation to secure Micah Parsons, but ultimately failed to reach an agreement.

The Cowboys lost star pass rusher Parsons last offseason when contract negotiations resulted in the team trading the 26-year-old to the Green Bay Packers. The defender did not slow down in his new home, recording 12.5 sacks and 27 QB hits this past season. While the Packers reached the playoffs, the Cowboys went home early.

Parsons’ departure serves as a cautionary tale for the Cowboys, suggesting that a similar approach to Pickens’ contract could result in the star wideout’s exit. The team has until July 15 to strike a long-term deal. Otherwise, the receiver will play the 2026 season on the franchise tag.

Emmanuel Acho slammed Jones and the front office for delaying yet another major contract negotiation during a recent appearance on “Speakeasy.”

“The Cowboys mishandled these situations four times over now,” Acho said. “Ezekiel Elliott was working out in Mexico because Jerry Jones hasn’t figured out that contract situation. Elliott ended up getting paid $90 million, of which you could suggest was mishandled and a mistake because they didn’t have the money to pay Dak Prescott.”

The Jones family has earned notoriety for financial battles with players over the last few years. The loss of Parsons marks a significant stain on the front office’s reputation, as the team remains without a premier pass rusher of his caliber.

“Then Prescott gets tagged-gets tagged again,” Acho recalled. “Then he becomes the highest-paid quarterback in football with $60 million, when he should not have been a $60 million quarterback, but you delayed that situation. You didn’t know how to handle the Parsons situation. You didn’t want to pay him ahead of time like we’ve seen so many teams do-shoutout to the Seahawks and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.”

Pickens’ situation presents another potential pitfall for the franchise. If the Cowboys lose him, they will miss a key offensive piece that could spell trouble for a unit looking to bounce back.

If he plays on the tag, he will earn $27.3 million, slightly less than the annual average he might command in a new extension. The prospect of long-term financial security remains a major factor in the standoff.

After finishing 7-9-1 last season, the Cowboys face a pivotal summer. It remains to be seen whether Pickens will be with the Cowboys to help improve the team in 2026.
