Puka Nacua has spent too much time in the headlines lately for reasons that have nothing to do with football. The Los Angeles Rams star is facing new allegations that his attorney has strongly denied, but the broader conversation around him continues to grow.
Emmanuel Acho Questions Rising Controversy Around Puka Nacua Amid Legal Allegations
Former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho addressed the situation on his show, arguing that Nacua needs to “move differently.”
Acho addressed Nacua’s off-field life while speaking on “The Speak Easy.” Acho said he is increasingly concerned by how often Nacua’s name has been tied to controversy in recent months. While he stopped short of declaring Nacua guilty of anything tied to the latest allegations, Acho argued the broader trend is becoming harder to ignore.
“I’m worried about Puka because Puka has become a target,” Acho said. “And we’ve seen Puka get in trouble based upon things that he’s done by himself, and then you’ve heard of accusations, but the problem for me is, how come so much controversy is circling you, Puka?”
Acho’s message sharpened from there. He framed Nacua not simply as a young player making mistakes, but as someone who has entered a different phase of his career, one where the stakes are much higher. “Puka, you have to realize your value,” Acho said. “You are a $180 million human being in the flesh right now… Act accordingly.”
That is the center of Acho’s argument. He is not talking about whether Nacua can play; that part is settled. He is talking about whether Nacua is carrying himself like the kind of player a franchise is about to hand a massive extension.
The latest round of attention followed allegations reported by TMZ involving claims that Nacua bit a woman and made an antisemitic comment during a New Year’s Eve incident. According to Rams Wire, the woman also sought a temporary restraining order, which was denied by a judge, though another hearing is reportedly scheduled for April 14.

Nacua’s attorney, Levi McCathern, pushed back forcefully and said the receiver denies the accusations “in the strongest possible terms.” McCathern also said they intend to pursue a defamation lawsuit and other legal action in response to the claims.
That legal backdrop is why this story remains sensitive and unresolved. But it also exists alongside a much bigger football reality for the Rams.
Nacua is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is extension-eligible for the first time this offseason. There is no real debate about his value on the field. He graded as the top receiver in the league in PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact Metric with a 98.2 score and became the only wideout to land in the A+ tier, while also leading the NFL with 129 catches.
That is why Acho’s comments landed the way they did. Nacua is not just another talented player drawing attention. He is one of the Rams’ foundational pieces, and the more noise that surrounds him, the harder it becomes to separate the player from everything around him.
