Teams do not make that type of payment without a clear plan for the player to remain on the roster. Adams is also set to earn an $18 million base salary. Once the bonus was paid, any realistic trade scenario became far less likely.

Adams backed up that commitment with strong production in 2025.
In his first season with the Rams, he appeared in 14 games and recorded 60 receptions for 789 yards. He also led the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns despite missing the final three regular-season games with a hamstring injury.
He is still a primary red-zone threat and a reliable target for quarterback Matthew Stafford. His route-running and timing remain elite traits that translate across any offensive system. But at 33, Adams is no longer viewed as a long-term building block.
