Jessica Pegula recently had a humorous interaction with a fan on social media. Their amusing exchange was regarding the former World No. 3’s height.
Pegula is currently in California for the 2026 BNP Paribas Open, which began on March 4 and runs through March 15, 2026. The main draw matches are being held on the outdoor hard courts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Jessica Pegula Humorously Reacts to a Fan’s Claim About Her Height
Before starting her campaign at Tennis Paradise, Pegula engaged with a fan on social media who hilariously questioned the science behind her being the “shortest tallest person” ever.
“what’s the science behind jessica pegula being the shortest tallest person ever,” the fan posted on X.
In response, the former World No. 3 joked that she has “no torso” and “weirdly long femurs,” which give the illusion that she is shorter than she actually is. She added that she sometimes appears shorter because she competes against much taller women.
“I have no torso, but weirdly long femurs 😂 I’m definitely not as short as everyone thinks I am. I just play with a lot of tall women hahahhah,” Pegula posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Pegula also revealed that a common comment she hears from fans is that she is “a lot taller in person.”
“Most common comment from fans: ‘Wow you’re a lot taller in person!!'” She added.

In addition to her singles campaign at the 2026 BNP Paribas Open, Pegula will also compete in the doubles event alongside her compatriot, McCartney Kessler. They will face the pair of Eri Hozumi and Wu Fang-hsien in the first round.
Pegula’s First Opponent at the Indian Wells
Pegula is seeded fifth at the 2026 Indian Wells Open, sponsored by BNP Paribas and known as the BNP Paribas Open. She will begin her campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She will play against the winner of the first-round match between Wild Card Donna Vekić and Tereza Valentová.
Pegula and Vekić have met twice on the WTA Tour, with the American winning both. Their most recent match was in the second round of the 2024 Berlin Ladies Open, where Pegula won 6-4, 7-5. She then went on to triumph over Anna Kalinskaya in the final to win the tournament, claiming her fifth WTA Tour singles title.
Meanwhile, Pegula and Valentová have not faced each other on the WTA Tour; thus, their potential second-round match at the BNP Paribas Open will be their first encounter.
The winner of the second-round match between Pegula and either Vekić or Valentová will advance to meet either 26th seed Jeļena Ostapenko, Wild Card Katie Volynets, or Rebecca Šramková in the third round of the tournament.
