Akheem Mesidor’s Availability Is Big News for the Hurricanes

According to analyst Bryan Fischer, who reported the update on Twitter, Mesidor is expected to be 100 percent available despite his injury during Miami’s game against Ole Miss. While Mesidor plans to wear a brace as a precaution, all indications are that the Hurricanes’ defensive leader will be ready to go when it matters most.

For a player as tough and resilient as Mesidor, it was never fully expected that he would miss a game of this magnitude. Still, the confirmation provides major relief for Miami fans, who now have validation straight from a trusted source that their defensive star will be on the field.

Mesidor’s presence could not come at a more critical time. Miami faces the daunting task of knocking off the top-ranked Indiana Hoosiers, widely viewed as the best team in the country. If the Hurricanes hope to have any chance of pulling off the upset, Mesidor’s impact up front will be essential.

His performance throughout the season speaks for itself. Mesidor finished the year with a PFSN grade of 80.5, ranking 31st nationally among all edge defenders, a clear reflection of how disruptive and consistent he has been for Miami’s defense. His ability to pressure quarterbacks, set the edge, and create chaos has been a cornerstone of Miami’s success.

Indiana’s Offense Presents a Tough Challenge

That disruption will be desperately needed against an Indiana offense that enters the game ranked No. 1 in the country by PFSN with a staggering 93.5 offensive grade. The Hoosiers are coming off a dominant semifinal performance in which they hung 56 points on a very good Oregon defense, further cementing their status as the team to beat.

Slowing down Indiana’s attack will largely fall on Mesidor and fellow edge rusher Rueben Bain, who will be tasked with making life uncomfortable for Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza. Getting consistent pressure on Mendoza is the Hurricanes’ best path to staying competitive, but it has proven an enormous challenge all season.

Mendoza currently holds the second-highest PFSN CFB quarterback impact grade, ranks as the No. 1 quarterback on the PFSN consensus big board, and is considered a top-five overall prospect in the country. Very few defenses have been able to get under his skin, and none consistently.

Still, with Mesidor officially in the lineup, Miami believes it has a fighting chance.

Mesidor is healthy, Miami is ready, and the Hurricanes are set to rock and rumble with the team of the year. All signs point to a Monday night showdown that could quickly become an instant classic.
