Former Raiders Star Expresses Desire To Coach Las Vegas: ‘I Love the Silver and Black, Bro’

The Las Vegas Raiders are set to hire another new head coach, and one former team star wants to know he's interested in the gig.

The Las Vegas Raiders are one of several teams looking for a new head coach this offseason. Veteran coach Pete Carroll was fired after going 3-14 in his first and only season with the team.

The Raiders have already interviewed several candidates for the job, but there’s one notable name who wanted to make it clear that he would be interested in the gig.

Former Raiders Star Wants To Be Considered for Job

Heading into the 2025 season, there was some real optimism around the Raiders. Antonio Pierce was fired after going 4-13 in 2024, and the thought was that Carroll would bring stability to the turbulent franchise. Instead, the Raiders were even worse under Carroll than they were under Pierce.

Now, the team is one of eight teams looking for a new coach. Several candidates, such as Kevin Stefanski, Matt Nagy, and Klint Kubiak, have already interviewed with the Raiders, but it seems like the team will take its time in making a decision.

On Friday, former Raiders star Derek Carr made it known that he would love to be considered for the job.

“I’m telling you right now, I know who it (the head coach) should be,” Carr said on the “Home Grown” podcast he cohosts with his brother, David. “I would love to be the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.”

Carr played for the Raiders from 2014 to 2022. During that time, Carr made four Pro Bowls and led the Raiders to the playoffs twice. The quarterback threw for over 35,000 yards during his time as the team’s quarterback.

“You don’t understand how much I love the Silver and Black, bro,” Carr explained. “I don’t think I’m going to get a chance.”

Carr has no coaching experience, so it would certainly be a leap to end up getting a head coaching interview. However, the quarterback clearly still has a lot of love for his old team.

Raiders Need To Ace Next Head Coaching Hire

The Raiders have not made the playoffs since the 2021 season and have not won a playoff game since the 2002 AFC Championship Game.

Since firing Jon Gruden in the 2021 season, the Raiders have had three different head coaches and will soon have a fourth. If the franchise wants to get back to relevance, acing this next hire is absolutely crucial.

Unfortunately, it won’t be an easy job for whoever accepts it. PFSN’s NFL Offense Impact Metric gave the Raiders a 56.3 grade in 2025, which ranked 31st in the league. PFSN’s NFL Defense Impact ranking gave the team a 70.9 grade, which ranked 21st in the league.
